Job Description

As the Operations Research Analyst 1, you will learn from and assist the AFRL/RVES Artificial Intelligence lead in creating and conducting studies and analyses relevant to space operations and analytics. Additionally, support overall engineering team in the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures to advance the creation of tools supporting Space Domain Awareness and Space Combat Power. Your daily activity involves gathering data to run experimental simulations and researching digital tools to enhance simulation frameworks. You will receive on the job training on light-weight development and translating trusted government agents needs to a definable problem set for software engineers. This job will be located at Kirtland AFB in a SCIF.

This is NOT a remote position.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The focus of this work is assessing problems and solutions in artificial intelligence for space. Job functions include following:

  • Identify and assess algorithms in software.
  • Coordinate with user community representatives throughout all phases of development concerning requirements definition, clarification, prioritization, and alternatives;
  • Analyze, compare, and evaluate the relative merits of program designs and alternatives;
  • Assess the impact of programmatic and technical options on stated user requirements and doctrine; and
  • Prepare reports and brief summarizing support requirements, deficiencies, and investments for various programs and systems.
  • Support development of data mining tools and retrieve data from data repositories that are relevant to space domain awareness. Use AI/ML techniques to perform analyses on the data and assess the situation.
  • Support team in framing problems and perform analysis in advanced simulation environments such as AFSIM.
  • Learn daily workflow in GitLab for team of engineers.
  • Collaborate with different organizations and teams associated with project.
  • Performed data analysis and built dashboards, using Excel, Tableau, and Qlik, of information affecting displaying the capabilities of DOD simulation frameworks versus commercial products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Entry level Knowledge of U.S. Space Force and the Air Force Research Laboratories
  • 0 years' experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.
  • Experience using statistical analysis tools that enable identification of key parameters, and key values of key parameters (e.g., R, Dakota, Galaxy).
  • Skilled in conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.

Preferred Requirements

  • Basic understanding of scripting languages such as Python.
  • Strong skills in problem solving.
  • Strong skills in mathematical calculations
  • Knowledge of Jira or Gitlab
