The Atwood Lab in the Department of Pharmacology is seeking a Researcher to join their team.

Position Responsibilities:

50%
Treating and testing of mice: the candidate will be responsible for breeding and weaning and applying various treatments to mice. The individual will work with lab members and the principal investigator to maintain optimal colony size, develop breeding strategies, and work with veterinary staff to maintain lab compliance and ensure the health and well-being of mice. Additional responsibilities will be maintaining detailed and organized records of work occurring in the mouse colony.

Research support and assistance: the candidate will be expected to assist on projects focused on the effects of opioids on brain and behavior function. Duties include but are not limited to conducting ethanol consumption paradigms, preparation of solutions, euthanizing animals, collecting tissue, processing tissue, immunostaining brain sections, and maintaining data records.

Laboratory support: the candidate will maintain an adequate supply of common laboratory reagents and consumables, assist in maintaining equipment, sterilize supplies as needed, and keep a record of standard operating procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
  • Must be willing to work with mice.
  • Must be highly motivated and demonstrate a desire to learn.
  • Must communicate effectively â" excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas to lab team members.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing transgenic mouse colonies, mouse handling, and basic lab experience is preferred but no required.
  • A background in neuroscience, pharmacology, or related fields of science appreciated

$41,600 to $74,796
