Business Research Librarian and Assistant Librarian Location: Elon University Campus, North Carolina, 27244 Title: Business Research Librarian and Assistant Librarian Position Type: Staff with Faculty Rank Days Per Week: Monday - Friday Hours Per Week: 40 VP Area: Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs Department: Library Position Summary The Business Research Librarian provides dynamic and proactive expertise and leadership in meeting the information literacy, research, and curricular needs of undergraduate students, graduate students, and teaching faculty in the Love School of Business through the development of engaged, innovative outreach initiatives and departmental support. The individual assists the Library Research and Scholarly Services team by giving voice and perspective in educating the campus community in understanding the mechanisms of research and scholarly impact through workshops and individual consultations with faculty. Additionally, they assist in educating the campus community in scholarly communication initiatives such as open educational resources (OER), open access, data visualization, and data management. This position reports to the Coordinator of Library Research and Scholarly Services. All employees in Belk Library ultimately report through the Dean of the Carol Grotnes Belk Library, who reports directly to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Minimum Required Education and Experience A master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and/or information science. Subject background in business as evidenced by professional experience or coursework in relevant fields, or experience with librarianship focused on the field of business. Demonstrated willingness to cultivate expertise in librarianship focused on the field of business and economics, including the emerging fields of entrepreneurship, fintech, and business analytics . Demonstrated ability to work successfully with others as well as independently. Enthusiasm and interest in engaged library instruction at all levels of the curriculum. Demonstrated commitment to professional development in the areas of librarianship, professional activity, and service. Excellent oral and written communication skills Preferred Education and Experience Interest in or knowledge of data analytics, data literacy, data visualization, and related data practices in the business field. Interest in or knowledge of current and emerging trends in scholarly communications, including research impact measurement, open educational resources (OER), and open access. Job Duties Serves as library liaison to the Love School of Business. Collaborates with faculty in the areas of collection development, instruction, research assistance, and access to collections and information. Instruction: Collaborates with faculty in planning library instruction sessions in assigned disciplines. Creates course or subject specific research guides to support library instruction sessions. Plans class sessions that are both accessible and inclusive in their presentations and methods. Creates interactive exercises and artifacts to use in the library instruction sessions to assess student understanding and engagement. Teaches course-related instruction sessions either in library spaces or in the classroom. Reflects on, and assesses effectiveness of, teaching through a variety of feedback mechanisms. Maintains contact with faculty after the library instruction session. Meets with students from the classes to discuss research proposals and find supporting research materials (articles, books, data, statistics, etc.).Collaborates with other instruction colleagues in the library and across campus to support instruction efforts. Collection development: Solicits faculty requests for materials to be purchased and added to the library's collections in assigned liaison areas. Purchases library materials using Gobi and serves as an intermediary between faculty and library technical services staff. Communicates with teaching faculty in assigned liaison areas informing them of new library materials and resources, policies, and announcements. Creates documentation supporting the departmental internal/external review for assigned liaison areas. Spends and reconciles liaison budget allocations to support curricular development and to ensure that the needs of individual departments and programs are equitably met. Participates in inventory and collection management projects occurring in assigned disciplinary subject areas. Communication: Actively builds relationships with staff and teaching faculty in assigned liaison areas by informing them of library resources, policies, and announcements. Communicates with campus communities and departments, informing them of library materials and services, and planning events. Attends departmental and programmatic events in assigned liaison areas to support students and faculty. Meets individually with students and faculty from liaison areas for research consultations. Answers referral questions related to assigned liaison areas. Supports the mission of Belk Library by providing library research and scholarly services to the Elon community. Assists campus community in understanding the mechanisms of research metrics and scholarly impact through workshops and consultations. This includes teaching scholars how to describe the qualitative and quantitative impact of their work and helping them better articulate the impact of their scholarship on their discipline and Elon's reputation. Assists campus community in understanding scholarly communications initiatives including open educational resources (OER), open access, data visualization, and data management. Maintains familiarity with relevant resources/tools/methods to facilitate scholarly communications work, whether through continuing education or reading the literature. Helps students, faculty, and staff find and use library resources, whether through chat, email, phone, or face-to-face interactions for assigned liaison areas or for a more general audience. Collaborates with partners on and off campus to match research questions to ideal resources (for example, working with Interlibrary Loan to obtain a text). Supports the mission of Belk Library through demonstrated commitment to the library's goals, initiatives, and service model. Provides consistent, professional, and courteous service to Elon students, faculty, staff, library colleagues, and the public. Staffs the library's service points whether in-person or virtually (desk, chat, zoom, drop-in, by-appointment, asynchronously).Ensures that library policies and procedures are consistently implemented and maintained. Demonstrates and incorporates diversity, equity, and inclusion values in interactions with students, faculty, staff, campus communities, and library colleagues. Demonstrates responsibility for core operations and commitment to the cross-functional shared service model of Belk Library. Recognizes and supports the critical nature of working collaboratively with building partners. Serves as a Personal Librarian for first-year students enabling them to navigate library resources and services. Meets with Elon 1010 classes to build relationships with first-year students, sends periodic emails to first-year students, and meets individually with students for research consultations. Participates in professional development to develop skills, build networks, enhance the reputation of Belk Library and Elon University, and contribute meaningfully to the profession of librarianship. Participates in University governance activities as appropriate for Staff with Faculty. Service to the Profession and Professional Development. Attends and presents original works at webinars, conferences, meetings, and/or publishes those works in journals, books, or other formats. Contributes to the profession as an active member of professional organizations at the local, state, regional, national and/or international level. Maintains currency in librarianship, scholarly communication, and higher education issues. Networks and collaborates with peers in academic and other libraries. Service to the University Engages in the broader life of the Elon University community to support deeper integration of Belk Library into the life of the campus. Engages in appropriate University committee work. Attends programmatic and university events to support students and faculty. Volunteers for and/or participates in campus and community events.
