Clinical Instructor (Temporary Employee Pool) Primary Purpose and Essential Functions: The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applicants for adjunct or part-time, clinical instructors in the Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing Program (ELMSN). Clinical Instructors will oversee a cohort of students in an approved clinical agency to meet the curricular areas mandated by the Board of Registered Nursing. These content areas include Pediatrics, Med-Surg/Gero, Obstetrics/Women's Health, Mental Health, and Public Health Nursing. Clinical sites include the Sacramento and Stockton areas. Clinical days vary in length. The accelerated trimester program curriculum is delivered over two (2) years. Additionally, faculty may assist in the skills/simulation lab. The ELMSN Program is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree, complete the required prerequisites, to enter the ELMSN program. Graduates are eligible for RN licensure, a Public Health Nurse Certificate, and an MSN degree. Teaching is the primary focus at the University. We aspire to promote student learning within a humanistic environment that facilitates student success to be competent self-directed learners. The role of clinical instructional faculty within the ELMSN Program at University of the Pacific is to provide instruction as assigned in areas of knowledge and expertise. The successful faculty candidate will be part of a highly motivated, cohesive faculty of experienced educators working as an interdisciplinary team to deliver a forward-thinking ELMSN curriculum designed to meet the new AACN Master's Essentials (2021). Graduates will serve as practice leaders and change agents to improve healthcare systems and patient outcomes. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other ELMSN faculty members within the program to provide expertise and contribute to a collaborative working environment. This position will report directly to the Faculty of Record and the ELMSN Assistant Director. Job Description and Responsibilities: Complete UOP clinical orientation and agency orientation (including policies). Review syllabus, clinical/course objectives expectations, clinical policies, and evaluation criteria for assessing student competencies. Monitor student performance/competency and provide feedback to meet learning objectives. Supervise/organize the student's clinical experience to facilitate the learning objectives. Complete mid-rotation and end of the rotation evaluation of student's competencies and email to the faculty of record. Engage with agency nursing personnel to facilitate a professional relationship as a representative of the university. Assist students to develop critical thinking skills. Mentor students to incorporate the use of EBP to enhance nursing practice. Provide students with timely constructive feedback. Serve as a mentor for students. Conduct post conferences for debriefing and as a teaching/learning opportunity for students. Primary Purpose: Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. Clinical appointments are made upon the recommendation of the department faculty where appropriate to an academic program. The clinical appointment is non-tenurable. A prefix such as 'clinical', or suffix such as 'of Practice', or other appropriate prefix or suffix, will be designated for these appointments, full-time or part-time. (FHB 7.1.4). A Clinical appointment utilizes specialized skills and experience in a certain professional field and is mainly responsible for teaching related duties and at times Service and Research aspects if expected by the School. Part-time faculty are appointed as needed by each unit and considered as less than full time annual appointment as specified by each unit. Part time is determined by the unit based on a comparison to year-long appointments. Time of service on a part-time appointment may not accrue to time for appointment with tenure. (FHB 7.1.6) Essential Functions: Conduct educational programs and courses of instruction in accordance with the policies of the University. Actively participate in the comprehensive planning or review of the development and quality improvement of the educational programs and courses of study, assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs and courses, and to make recommendations to the program faculty and administration, programs, and policies of the University. The faculty member may consider any matter in connection with the effectiveness and quality of the educational program or the professional welfare of the faculty, may make recommendations to the department chair, academic dean or provost concerning any policies, programs, or procedures which affect the educational program or faculty welfare. Each school and college in the University may have a faculty of its own consisting of all members of the University faculty within the particular school or college and subject to the approval of the Provost, adopt by-laws and rules concerning its own organization, governance, and procedures. Each such faculty shall function under the Dean and Provost and be subject to the policies of the University faculty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors in a subject related to nursing. Two (2) years of direct care experience. Active, unencumbered RN License. Content expertise in one or more of the BRN specialty areas: Population Health/Community Health Health Assessment Adult Health/Gero Critical Care Nursing Nursing Fundamentals Pediatrics Maternal Care, OB, Post-Partum, Neonatal Mental Health Nursing Preferred Qualifications: BSN. A masters degree or its equivalent in the field of specialization and promise of teaching success and of scholarly achievements. MSN. DNP, PhD, Ed.D. Experience with Canvas EMS. One (1) to two (2) years experience teaching as a clinical instructor. Expertise in clinical skills/simulation. Ability to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students. Knowledge, skills, and experience in working with diverse students. Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written modalities. Computer literacy.
