VLRC Staff Attorney Primary Purpose: The VLRC Staff Attorney will work under the direct supervision of the Director, California Victims Legal Resource Center. The VLRC Staff Attorney will provide case management and direct legal representation to victims of crime in Sacramento and surrounding Counties. Provide legal information and referrals to victims over the statewide 1-800-VICTIMS hotline, conduct legal research and writing on victims' rights related matters, and review law clerk research. Essential Functions: Provide direct legal representation to VLRC Legal Center clients, including representation in court and complete case management. Help monitor law clerks as they provide legal information through the 1800VICTIMS hotline and www.1800victims.org website chat function. Assist director in supervising legal externs in their duties at the Center. Assist director in supervising student interns in the completion of research memoranda and other projects. Assist Director in planning and updating the VLRC website. Performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctor from accredited Law School. Passed California Bar Exam and otherwise able to practice law in California. Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) years of experience working with victims of crime or underserved communities. Experience representing clients and using online case management system. Ability to work with victims of all crimes in a culturally competent and trauma informed manner. Strong public speaking skills and experience with presentations, workshops, and training programs. Excellent oral and written communication. Ability to clearly and simply communicate legal terms and procedures. Strong team player; able to lead and educate those with less legal experience. Detail oriented and able to multi-task. Able to manage caseload in a well-organized manner. Strong preference for bilingual- English and Spanish. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work. Sitting for long periods of time. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work performed during standard business hours. Forty hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and, on occasion, overtime as directed. May require some travel. Valid drivers license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the Universitys fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record. Hiring Range: $66,560.00 - $83,799.30 per year.
