JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Managing Executive Director of Development, the Managing Senior Director of Development (MSDOD) will lead a comprehensive fundraising program for the Human and Social Sciences Division within the context of overall fundraising efforts for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and UC Davis. This is a metric-driven position functioning as a UC Davis major gifts officer, operating in full compliance with development polices and collaborating with other development professionals throughout the university. This position is a key participant in developing the strategy and planning of development collegewide programs and projects. As such, they will be responsible for building relationships with internal and external constituencies across a wide variety of disciplines in the agricultural and environmental sciences. The MSDOD will build a portfolio of prospects and donors with interest in a broad range of areas that intersect with key college priorities and interdisciplinary initiatives. As part of this work, they will direct efforts to identify new prospects through researching background information on potential donors, developing materials, marketing plans, and organizing related programs/events. This position is one of five senior administrators in the CA&ES division of Development and Alumni Engagement supervising two positions. The MSDOD will oversee fundraising staff and support their efforts to manage major gift portfolios with prospects and donors who have degrees and/or interest within the departments within the Human and Social Sciences Division and serve as development liaison to one or more of those departments. The departments in the Human and Social Sciences division are Agricultural and Resources Economics, Food Science and Technology, Human Ecology, and Nutrition. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Remain stationary for extended periods of time during events. Maneuver items (event boxes) weighing up to 25lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work occasional overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays. Hybrid work schedule with both in person expectations and remote capacity. Must be able to travel to donor visits throughout the state, off-site meetings, and events. Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation. Ability to work effectively in an area where there is constant traffic and noise from office machines, telephones, and conversations. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. A minimum of 5 years of major gift fundraising experience with proven ability to cultivate, solicit and steward philanthropic gifts of $1M and above. A minimum of 3 years of experience supervising development professionals. Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated skills providing leadership and support to deans, faculty, volunteers, trustees, and development colleagues in carrying out their responsibilities. Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds and identities. Documented experience building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst team members. Preferred : Master's degree and/or CFRE or equivalent combination of education and experience. Higher Education major gift fundraising experience, including excellent knowledge of all aspects of a college/university campus, including relevant issues for both the campus and higher education including, applicable laws, rules, regulations, institutional policies, etc. Experience or working knowledge of public, land-grant, and/or agricultural and environmental focused institutions. Political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors and volunteers.
