WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:

As an IT “Platform Engineer” for the American Red Cross, you will be part of the Enterprise Data and Analytics department that is modernizing and transforming our data and reporting capabilities across multiple verticals, including Biomedical Services, by implementing a new modernized data architecture.  The Platform Engineer role requires you to be a natural problem-solver with strong analytical capabilities and verbal and written communication skills as well as being a technical leader, and mentor within the department.   Therefore, you are an innovative professional who can easily acquire new business acumen, enjoy technology and systems, and are passionate about their adoption.  You are a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail and solid writing skills.

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours. 

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

•    Identify, encourage, and build automated processes wherever possible. Be an advocate for automation, continuous improvements, and best practices.

•    Lead Environment Management Design with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code systems.

•    Elicit, collect, clarify, and analyze business requirements into technology artifacts from which technology solutions are developed.

•    Strive and contribute for continuous improvement and build continuous integration, continuous development, and deployment pipelines.

•    Participate in all phases of the solution lifecycle and work closely with a variety of internal, and external customers and technology partners.  This includes requirements analysis, specification writing, and authoring and executing test plans.

•    Evaluate system and component releases for impact to business processes.

•    Have technical skills to code review, verify, and validate the software code developed.

•    Learn and understand operational processes and how individuals and technology can best ensure the success of the architectural operation.

Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.  The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):

•    Education: 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•    Minimum: 3+ years of professional experience assessing and developing operational automation and managing technical environments.

•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•    Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

•    Ability to work independently or as part of a team and comfortable working remotely as required.

The following technical experience is REQUIRED:

•    Experience with programming languages such as: Python or JavaScript. Experience with either is a requirement.

•    Experience using release management and projects management tools like Jira, EasyVista, ClearQuest, or Git/Gitlab is required. 

•    Experience with Terraform and/or Ansible.

•    Experience with Cloud Providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP.

•    Must be comfortable with formal documentation development.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (preferred qualifications): 

•    Experience with CICD Pipeline as Code tools like Gitlab or Harness, JFrog Artifactory a plus.

•    Experience with Monitoring Solutions and Strategies like New Relic, Grafana, or Datadog a plus.

•    Experience with compute workloads in virtual machines, serverless functions, and Kubernetes.

•    Working in a regulated environment.

PAY INFORMATION: 

The starting annual salary range for this position is $115K - $130K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.BENEFITS FOR YOU:
