Job Overview






Komatsu is currently sourcing for a Mechanical Engineer for our New Product Development team in our Design Engineering department in Longview, Texas.  Komatsu offers competitive pay, excellent benefits and annual merit/bonus potential.








Key Job Responsibilities








  • Work safe and be an advocate for safety.


  • Lead engineering projects to develop, maintain and support components, products and/or services per market demands, as well as for continual process improvements.


  • Conduct analytical analysis (FEA) and classic hand calculations to evaluate component loads and stresses.


  • Apply knowledge of strength of materials to determine/evaluate appropriate material for component usage.  


  • Perform or conduct strain gage testing to support analytical analysis and/or gain understanding of component loading.


  • Perform or conduct engineering evaluations including investigations, basic calculations and tests that have well defined requirements and desired outcomes.


  • Provide conceptual and strategic solutions to solve problems that are associated with engineering projects or evaluations.


  • Act as a group leader for those who are supporting components, products and/or services as well as continual improvements in engineering processes.










Qualifications/Requirements








  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics is required.


  • Experience in engineering design, machine application, mining industry, desired.


  • Experience with large welded structure design, desired.


  • Experience with Strain Gage Testing/Instrumentation, desired.


  • Experienced in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, desired.


  • Experienced in the use of Finite Element Analysis, desired.


  • Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired.


  • Participation in effective Change Management implementation, desired.










Additional Information








  • Participate in and support programs for effective communication of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as engineering best practices.


  • Participate in and support improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and /or services.


  • Participate in effective Change Management to achieve the desired organizational outcomes by successfully changing individual behaviors as needed.


  • Work directly with Engineering Managers and Supervisors to perform calculations, analysis, and research in the areas of structural design.

The Komatsu North America Mining Distribution and Service group is a critical part of our Komatsu global organization.  We, sell, install, service, provide parts and rebuild equipment, as well as provide digital solutions for our customers.  In the United States, we have a presence in 16 states across the US with 30 primary sites.  We have approximately 1,200 employees.   

Our group supports field operations at the customer mine sites as well as shop operations at the Distribution and Service Centers.  A large part of our workforce focuses includes technical trades.
