Assistant Teaching Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Oakland Campus About the Opportunity About the Opportunity The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at our Oakland, CA campus with the title of Assistant Teaching Professor. This position has significant opportunities for career advancement in a growing and dynamic department. Responsibilities: This position primarily involves undergraduate chemistry teaching. Teaching faculty are expected to teach up to five sections (5 courses) per year of chemistry and related courses for physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering students. A focus of teaching will be in General and/or Organic Chemistry courses with opportunities for teaching throughout the chemistry undergraduate curriculum, including developing and teaching laboratories and recitation sessions. One additional unit of service is expected, which may include oversight and evaluation of course and laboratory curricula, planning and developing instructional programs and materials, and departmental, College, and University service. Candidates are expected to have high aptitude and interest in teaching and the ability to coordinate with other instructors and advisors to monitor student progress and assist students when necessary. Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry or other closely related discipline by the appointment start date Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate lecture courses Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills Northeastern is committed to building a diverse faculty who are committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. Diversity statement: Please provide a statement describing a time when you altered or changed your approach to research, teaching, or service because of the diversity of the group you were working with or your awareness of marginalized populations. What changes did you make, and what did you learn from this situation? We are interested in how you respond to such situations, not the identities of the people involved, so please only disclose what you are comfortable with. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing individuals from groups marginalized in your field and be in alignment with Northeastern's mission to reflect the diversity of the societies in which it maintains campuses and to meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population. Some faculty candidates may not have substantial past experience. If that is the case, we recommend focusing in your statement on the types of activities you think could be useful.
