Deputy Controller | Manhattan College - Military Veterans

The Deputy Controllers primary responsibilities are to support the preparation of internal and external financial reporting and filings, coordinate preparation and monitoring of the budget with the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, implement and assess internal controls, and oversee daily cash flows of the College. The Deputy Controller supervises the daily workflow and activities of the accounting staff including review and approval of analyses and transactions for appropriate accounting treatment. The Deputy Controller will assist the Controller in administration of the department and implementation of new initiatives (e.g. systems, processes, etc.)

Responsibilities:

General ledger maintenance, including monthly closes, including account analyses and reconciliations.

Ensure accuracy of information and timely reconciliations of data between systems (Advancement, Payroll, Student Accounts, Housing, etc.).

Oversee accounting staff of the Controllers Office.

Assist with the development of budget scenarios and preparation of forecasts.

Oversee monthly reporting to the board of trustees, senior management and divisions.

Serve as a power user of the Colleges finance software system (Banner) and provide system support for implementation of system enhancements and upgrades for all Finance functional areas (e.g. accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting, budget, payroll, etc.).

Assist with implementing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures and internal controls. Work with departments to facilitate compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

Oversee and participate in the preparation, review, and analysis of the Colleges annual financial statements and facilitation of the annual external audits.

Collaboration with Institutional Research and other departments in completion of the periodic surveys.

Oversee and participate in completing the annual tax filings (e.g. Federal Form 990).

Assist with the overall management of the Controllers Office.

Assist with board of trustees committee matters (e.g. preparation of analyses, minutes, etc.).

Review cash flow\balance reporting and approval of account transfers and wires.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelors Degree in accounting

Minimum five years of accounting and reporting experience

Minimum three years supervisory experience

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Excellent organizational skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Team player and builder

Qualifications Preferred:

MBA and or CPA

Experience with Banner

Experience in Higher Education

Salary Range : $150K to $170K
