Associate Research Scientist | Columbia University - Military Veterans

at HERC - Metro New York & Southern Connecticut

The Laboratory for Embryomimetics (Simunovic Lab) is seeking an Associate Research Scientist (ARS) or a postdoctoral fellow with experimental training in stem cell and developmental biology, cell biology, biophysics, or a related field, to take part in studying the basic biology of signaling, patterning, and morphogenesis at the interface of embryogenesis and reproductive biology. The broad interest of the lab is engineering stem cell and patient tissue-derived organoid models and dissecting the molecular and genetic details underlying the placenta-uterine interface, symmetry breaking in early embryogenesis, and uterine development and function. Although no specific expertise or experience in these areas is strictly required, candidates should have a strong affinity for complex biosystems, the ability to develop projects independently, and a desire for high-risk, high-reward biological research. The lab is located at the Columbia Medical Campus, surrounded by a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment, with affiliations to several schools and institutes (the School of Engineering, Columbia Stem Cell Initiative), which provide a number of meaningful career development opportunities for postdocs. The lab is currently supported by a number of high-risk, high-reward grants, allowing the trainees to develop their research program with significant creative freedom. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in science and academia are strongly encouraged to apply or inquire more information about our research. Candidates must have a PhD in biology, biophysics, or a related field, with a working knowledge of human pluripotent stem cells. Candidates with fewer than four years of postdoctoral experience will be considered for a postdoctoral scholar position. Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Pay Transparency Disclosure The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
