What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Project Management: Skilled in strategizing, coordinating, and executing engineering, system reliability, and general maintenance tasks and projects; project management expertise and meticulous attention to detail are essential for achieving success.

  • Equipment Proficiency and Hands-on: Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing, programming, and calibrating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) or equivalent. Additionally, have proven hands-on experience in repairing or assembling machine tools to accuracies of less than one micron, and adeptly using hard gauges and other open set-up equipment to support inspection development and process maintenance.

  • Critical Thinking: Ability to apply critical thinking in complex problem solving, present options, and make recommendations.

  • Problem solving: Employing engineering principles and theories, along with mathematics and science, to effectively resolve complex technical issues, support engineering research, and perform maintenance work. Offering solutions to a diverse array of complex problems, involving data analysis and the evaluation of various factors.

  • Developing integrated work documents: Demonstrated experience ensuring strict adherence to safety and security regulations while implementing integrated work documents and processes to facilitate safe inspection operations.

  • Supporting Inspection Design: Possessing proven expertise in interpreting engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to play a crucial role in inspection development.

  • Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Calibration Expertise: Hands-on experience in calibrating measurement equipment.

  • Measurement Assurance Program (MAP) Experience: Demonstrated experience in independently or collaboratively supporting establishment of a measurement assurance and/or measurement system analysis program.

  • Manufacturing Expertise: Demonstrated experience in supporting designing, planning, and executing manufacturing projects.

  • Quality Standards Proficiency: Familiarity with ASME quality assurance standards such as Y14.5 and NQA-1, as well as NAP 401.1 and DOE Order 414.D.

  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in using or supporting the utility of software packages such as Quindos, Calypso, or PC-DMIS; PTC CREO; or SolidWorks.

  • Testing for Reproducibility and Repeatability: Demonstrated experience performing Repeatability & Reproducibility (R&) study and design, Experience with Gage R&R design, analysis, and interpretation to support inspection development.

  • Equipment Expertise: Advanced experience using hard gages and other open set-up equipment to support inspection development.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance:Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearancerequires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
