Research Administrator 3- SOM: Urologic Surgery- Sacramento Campus Department Description The Department of Urologic Surgery in the School of Medicine educates medical students, residents, clinical and postdoctoral fellows in urology. Conducts basic science and clinical research, including clinical trials, and provides state-of-the art clinical care services. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY Responsibilities The Research Administrator 3 provides expert and comprehensive financial, analytical, and administrative oversight and support for the department's growing research and clinical trials activities. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Research Administrator plays an integral role in the overall planning, organizing, analyzing, oversight and monitoring of all research grants, contracts, clinical trials, and other sponsored and non-sponsored research activities, ensuring all aspects of each research-related activity are completed. Independently responsible for financial and budget management, oversight, and accountability for all intramural and extramural funds. Manages comprehensive pre- and post-awards including complex proposal development and submissions for all contracts and grants including clinical trials. Independently serves as department liaison with Sponsored Programs, SOM OR, Business Contracts, sponsoring agencies, collaborating academic institutions, administrators, and academic researchers. Ensures proper administration of all funded research activities and ensure compliance with sponsoring agencies and University Policy and Procedures. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of University, campus, and University accounting policies, contracts and grant policies, procedures, and practices. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or other related field and or equivalent combination of education and experience Demonstrated experience with pre-award research administration including preparing and submitting proposals for contracts and grants to extramural sponsors using campus and extramural sponsor electronic Research Administration (eRA) systems Experience with post award accounting and financial reporting and internal audits of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with institutional and funding agency requirements Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and other common programs to distill relevant financial and statistical information from large data sets and present the information for financial reporting Experience with health sciences compensation as related to grants cost recovery Demonstrated experience with NIH (especially NCI) and DOD grant applications Demonstrated experience with pre and post award for subcontracts Demonstrated knowledge and skill to interpret, comprehend and comply with policies and guidelines as related to pre and post award administration and clinical trial management pertaining to Sponsored Programs, Contracts and Grants Accounting, Institutional Review Board, and granting agencies (federal, state and private) Demonstrated knowledge and experience preparing financial reports, developing financial short- and long-term projections, performing budgetary planning and developing and monitoring budgetary processes Demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Guidance (Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principals, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards) and sponsor policies. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the administration of complex clinical trials including clinical cost analysis, budget negotiation, clinical research billing and coding and data management Preferred Qualifications Certified Research Administrator (CRA) highly preferred Experience with UC Davis financial and business systems (KFS, FIS DS, ERS, Cayuse, UCPath and UCP Cognos) highly desirable Knowledge of University budget and finances to include University policies and procedures on personnel and payroll, purchasing, travel, entertainment, transfers of expenses, invoicing, and collections highly desirable Special Requirements This position must maintain a work schedule during core business hours and provide additional time as needed to meet project deadlines and operational needs. This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
