The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.

The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

This position is for the electrical engineer/system owner for a natural gas combined cycle plant (Smith Energy Complex). It will include managing all technical electrical decisions for the station including preventative maintenance decisions, project development, risk management, and long-range planning. It also will require financial and project management. This person will also be highly involved in any design reviews for complex projects as needed. The position will also require interfacing with multiple departments to meet station and project objectives. The ability to handle multiple requests simultaneously is key to maintain proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
• Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
• Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
• Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
• The System Owner / Engineer position has direct oversight of the station's systems assigned and engineering needs within those systems. Responsible for owning those systems and providing engineering assistance to Operations and Maintenance.
• This job requires technical design, review, and analyses of equipment/systems to optimize plant performance and achieve safe, reliable, economical, and efficient operations. This has been in many forms, the following more closely related to your ownership of systems:
• PMs and the review of feedback from PMs - to adjust maintenance strategies.
• System and equipment performance.
• Issues and required changes for those issues.
• System Owner walkdown discoveries.
• Inspections of equipment.
• In addition, the System Owners/ Engineer are tasked with:
• Resolving emergent technical requests.
• Maintaining plant Risk Grid for your systems/equipment.
• Providing engineering and technical support for station managed Capital and O&M projects.
• Oversight of projects managed by the Outage and Projects Support and COSO groups to assure the original intent of the project is met and appropriate stakeholders are given opportunity to help define scope and review design.

Basic Qualifications for


  • Bachelor's in engineering


  • Minimum 4 years related experience



Sr Engineer

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    6 years related work experience


Specific Requirements

• Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Engineer III

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
• Increasingly proficient in principles of project management.
• Experience in the utility industry.
• Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
• Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
• Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Senior Engineer

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient in engineering theories and principles
• Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in principles of project management
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
• Experience in the utility industry
