Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelors or Technology degree in Engineering or a related specialized area/field, or equivalent (4 years job-related experience). Requires an additional 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of job-related experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Lab Manager to join our Center of Excellence. This position provides an opportunity to work directly with some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to secure clients information systems and their contents. The Lab Manager & Test Engineer will work with agile sprint teams in planning, developing and executing System Demonstration test events while ensuring our lab supports all development and test activities. Activities in our labs and test events are observed by our customer and government representatives. In the test capacity, the candidate will be primarily focused on executing test plans, procedures, test cases for end to end verification and validation complex systems. In the lab manager capacity, the candidate will be responsible for all the equipment, configuration, maintenance and operation of the MUOS labs. Two fill both roles, the candidate must be a detail-oriented, highly motivated individual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Due to our fast paced environment, Lab Mangers & Test Engineers need to be self-motivated to complete work with minimal direction.

As a Lab Manager & Test Engineer, the candidate will need to come up to speed quickly on a defect fix or new capability, work with development and the agile sprint tester to develop a system level test, document the steps, prepare for the test and then execute the test for the customer. The system level test or demo will include presenting the fix or new capability, regression testing of the area updated followed by an end-user demonstration. The candidate will support various lab activities such as loading new software and keys, debugging issues identified by lab users and other tasks to keep the lab running. The multiple lab environments will need to meet all customer and GDMS safety and security processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure day to day operations of capital and GFE lab equipment, ensuring safe operation of equipment and use
  • Instruct team members in lab procedures, methods, use of equipment and safety and enforce the lab rules
  • Procure, install, track, operate and maintain equipment
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise on equipment in the lab
  • Experience as a Test Engineer in test engineering of modern software systems
  • Proficient in the implementation of test strategies, plans, procedures, and reports
  • Some requirements analysis experience and trained or have experience in the testing of systems at the component, integration, system, and end-to-end levels
  • Experience in code unit testing, integration testing, use case and operational scenario based testing
  • Experience in writing test cases and writing discrepancy reports
  • Understanding of the full system life-cycle
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills as well as the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills that enable the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Basic Qualifications

The Lab Manager & Test Engineer position requires a Bachelors of Science degree or Technology degree or the equivalent experience, and a minimum of eight years of related experience. The successful candidate must possess:
  • A passion for excellence and continued learning
  • Flexibility and a tolerance for change (and the ability to manage it) in dynamic program development environments
  • 3+ years System or Integration Test
  • 8+ years managing Engineering Labs
  • Experience on agile teams
  • Experience interfacing with customers
  • Experience on high reliability product development
  • Energetic and Self-motivated
  • Up to 10% Travel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have a good working knowledge of the MUOS system as a whole and specific expertise in at least one of the MUOS areas: GIS/Core, NMS, RAN, RF, SCS, IA
  • Skills in automating manually run tests
  • Telecommunications or satellite program experience

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $83,185.00 - USD $141,415.00 /Yr.
