Senior Ultrasound Technologist (ULTRASOUND TCHNO SR) Job Summary Job Summary The Echo Lab uses ultrasound systems manufactured by different vendors. It is expected that the Sr. Ultrasound Technologist (SUT) becomes an expert in its use, maintains that level of expertise, including when new equipment is purchased. Echos are performed independently and take place in outpatient care settings. The SUT is also responsible for maintaining a high standard of medical ethics at all times and acts as a resource to physicians, nurses, patients and families. The SUT is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, understanding pathophysiology, learning new procedures as they evolve, and follow established examination standards that adhere to the policies and procedures of UCDH and IAC. Participation in lab accreditation activities per IAC are required. This position requires certification as an RDCS or RCS. Must be able to perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Echo Lab Supervisor and Noninvasive Cardiology Manager. No smoking, eating or drinking allowed in work area. Must keep work area clean and free of debris. TB test, current CPR required annually per JCAHO requirements. The incumbent must be registered RDCS by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or RCS by Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Strength to lift and manipulate patients and/or equipment. Ability to safely transfer patients weighing up to 400 lbs. with assistance to/from exam table throughout the day. Safely Lifts/moves supply boxes, equipment, and/or pediatric patients up to 45 lbs. occasionally throughout the day. Ability to maneuver ultrasound equipment in tight places which includes bending, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling. Ability to sit, and/or stand for long periods of time while performing patient exams. Must have stamina and mobility to walk from location to location within the hospital and other campus (satellite) locations. Manual dexterity to turn knobs and flip switches and maneuver various types of equipment; to operate a computer system for data entry; and to legibly enter information in small spaces on preprinted forms throughout the day. See, speak and hear well enough to accomplish patient tests without hampering the flow of activities. Communicate effectively in person and by telephone with Hospital personnel and the general public throughout the day. Work in a radiation area. Needs to be able to handle a high patient volume in high pressure department with constantly changing priorities.
