Review more information at BNL | Benefits Program The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is seeking a technician to join the Imaging and Microscopy Program. The Imaging and Microscopy Program is home to 4 operating beamlines, with additional beamlines currently being built. A successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of world-leading research and X-ray microscopy instrumentation. POSITION DESCRIPTION In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the technical activities of the program, working with external vendors and coordinating tasks between different groups. The new and existing instrumentation require support on many systems including vacuum, cooling water and cryogen. You will also be responsible for assembly work, debugging and diagnosing beamline systems, and providing valuable input and feedback to scientists and engineers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Maintain and support current imaging and microscopy beamlines * Debug and diagnose systems to resolve issues * Assist with development and provide valuable input for future upgrades including new instrumentation and beamlines * Lead technical projects from conceptual design through installation * Responsible for developing and coordinating design, procurement and installation of technical projects * Ensure safe work practices Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus: - 6 years relevant work experience or; - a technical high school certification program (eg. BOCES) and 5 years relevant work experience or; - a technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 4 years experience or; - a BS degree in a technical field - Ability to clearly and effectively communicate - Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams to complete project objectives - Lead and coordinate a project from design to installation with a focus on safety - Good mechanical skills, the ability to work with basic hand tools, measuring tools, and familiarity with mechanical drawings and process and instrumentation diagrams drawings - Ability to read and carry out instructions from an Operating Procedures Manual - Experience with system instrumentation such as pressure gauges, temperature gauges, and flow meters and read outs in imperial and metric units Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - a high school diploma or equivalent plus: - 8 years relevant work experience, or; - a technical high school certification program (eg. BOCES) and 7 years relevant work experience or; - a technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 6 years experience or; - a BS degree in a technical field and 2 years work experience Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements: - Visual Acuity - Arm/hand dexterity - Ability to Climb ladders Other Information: Work arrangement On-Site Sponsorship of a visa for this position is not available Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $72050 - $108100 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
