Division/Department Information The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in The School of Education at St. John's University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Childhood Education. The purpose of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is to prepare teachers for certification in their respective fields while imparting a values-based philosophy that promotes service, integrity, compassion and diversity. Responsibilities The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks a scholar to join our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a start date of September 1, 2024, or January 1, 2025. The responsibilities associated with the position include: Teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level (including doctorate) courses with an emphasis on all aspects of childhood education, including literacy (this position carries a 3-3 teaching load) Maintaining an active research agenda Serving on department, school, and university committees Participating in program development and assessment Advising students Seeking external grant funding Engaging in service to the program, school, university and profession Qualifications The ideal candidate will: Be able to design and deliver instruction that meets standards for Childhood Education in person and/or online Possess deep knowledge of theories of teaching and learning Demonstrate potential for scholarly work, including publications, conference presentations, and a compelling research agenda Demonstrate a commitment to anti-racist pedagogies Demonstrate and enact culturally relevant pedagogies Engage in effective use of technology for online learning Show evidence of critical reflection Hold a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or Teacher Education (or closely related field with a focus in Childhood Education) Applicants who expect to earn their doctorates in Spring 2025 will receive consideration Have at least three years of experience as a PK-12 educator Additional preferences for candidates include: Record of teaching at the college level Knowledge of diverse research methods Licensed PK-12 teacher with multiple certifications Record of teaching and working in high-need communities Record of working with pre-service teacher candidates in the field Be familiar with AAQEP and INTASC standards, as well as New York State K-12 pedagogy standards Application Process Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $72,500 - $76,000.
