Overview

The successful candidate will supervise the Technical Publications Group within the ILS organization. The groups primary focus areas are with Ship Information Books, Class System Manuals, System/Equipment Technical Manuals, as well as support of the Ship Information Guides. This group is responsible for developing new technical manuals, updating existing and evaluating all changes for impacts to these documents. The Technical Publications group supports all DDG 51 and DDG 1000 programs New Construction, Lead Yard Services, and Planning Yard efforts.

The Tech Pubs Supervisor will be expected to perform all supervisory roles for the group including making efficient and accurate decisions and effectively plan and manage all of the teams contract scope. All while ensuring the resulting products/deliverables conform to Navy policy and industry process requirements to ensure the US Navy sailor receives the necessary support to complete their mission.

The BIW Tech Pubs group receives (SDRL) deliverables from suppliers with these submittals tracked through a procurement data system and will be required to be properly managed to ensure that the documents are received, reviewed, and dispositioned with the supplier. The supervisor will need to ensure quality requirements are met prior to processing and creating the BIW documentation (CDRL) submittal to our Navy customers. The supervisor will also be responsible for the oversight in processing Navy feedback either internal to the group or through the supplier as necessary.
The supervisor will need to maintain efficient working relationships with our Navy customers to ensure we are receiving all necessary feedback and are properly meeting the requirements.

This position requires a close working relationship with the ILS Selected Record Drawing team to ensure that all drawing pages from the technical publications that they maintain are properly scoped and updated to meet program milestones.

This position is part of the Life Cycle Engineering and Support organization and reports directly to the manager of Integrated Logistics Support and Op Cycle Management.

Responsibilities

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
  • US Navy experience using Navy Technical Manuals.
  • Experience creating, updating, or maintaining Navy Technical Documentation strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Should possess a deep understanding of equipment/system operations on Navy vessels.
  • Proficient in use of personal computers and associated software required; Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a highly technical team of technicians and designers.
  • Ability to forecast, plan, and manage work efforts relative to fixed price and LOE contract scope.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments.
  • Ability to work independently to develop and implement solutions to highly technical issues.
  • Positive relationship and reputation with the U.S. Navy customer.
  • Must have the ability to instill a culture of providing error free products in a timely manner.
  • Shipbuilding/shipboard or related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Familiarity with Navy Technical documentation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints/drawings.
  • Current security clearance with the US Government or must be willing to undergo and favorably pass a US Government security background investigation for security clearance.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
