SUMMARY

Coordinate and perform advanced troubleshooting, support, and high-level testing of electromechanical shipbuilding equipment. Required to perform multiple analytical functions - including but not limited to: root cause analyses, drawing changes, part substitution/upgrade recommendations, preventative/predictive/corrective maintenance program development and implementation. Required to participate in the design, planning, and execution of major equipment upgrades and capital-funded installations in participation with NASSCOs Facilities department as needed. Act as a subject matter expert to communicate issues up and down the operations chain of command. Validate / develop proper technical documentation for shipyard equipment. Perform acceptance testing for machinery, systems, and tooling used to build ships.

This position will be required to work long hours / early mornings on occasion. Machine support required at various times / to varying degrees in order to support production needs. Leading and working in teams is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES


  • Maintstar Reporting (Work Order System).

  • Decision making abilities

  • Adherence and understanding of business principles and vision.

  • Supervision and training of maintenance personnel.

  • Hands on operation of systems and equipment.

  • Hands on troubleshooting assistance and guidance as needed

  • Perform duties and responsibilities hand-in-hand with maintenance supervisors.

  • Maintain predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance program on all equipment.

  • Assign work to maintenance employees, or subcontractors as required.

  • Manage and progress work being accomplished on assigned projects

  • Development of technical drawings or procedures as required for shipyard equipment.

  • Interfacing with multiple vendors, OEMs, and customers to solve complex problems.

  • Effectively communicate with various people in various positions

  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.

  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in an engineering field, or equivalent cumulative experience with a proven electromechanical and/or asset management background.
  • 5 to 10 years experience in relevant field.
  • Armed services experience in the technical ratings is desirable
  • Experience in heavy industrial equipment installs and automated equipment repairs is desirable
  • Strong proven mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
  • Proven ability to speak in front of an audience and communicate effectively


  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color determination (requires the ability to distinguish color) and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be able to walk on scaffolding and work at heights abroad vessels under construction or repair. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Position requires employees to carry, raise/lift, lower, push or pull objects up to 50lbs. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 60% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

    PAYSCALE:

    $82,200 - $112,900

    This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
