In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.    The Critical Care Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an inpatient clinician who will provide clinical inpatient support in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). This Clinician will join a multidisciplinary team to include physicians in-training (medical students, residents and fellows) and the appropriate support staff. This clinician will work shifts, not scheduled to exceed 12 hours in duration, to provide patient care. Essential Functions Engages in dependent clinical practice on a multidisciplinary team charged with the care of patients within a Medical Intensive Care Unit environment, coordination of care with specialty services and ordering/interpreting diagnostic and laboratory assessments. Performs bedside procedures, supervised by the attending critical care physician, to include but no limited to: paracentesis, thoracentesis and placement of central access devices and arterial lines. Participates as a team member in response to Rapid Response or Code Blue events throughout the medical center. Coordinates care at time of discharge from the critical care setting to the general hospital population, LTAC, assisted living facility or home. Discharges to home requires direct communication with the patient's primary care physician and needed consultants. Frequently reviews ongoing critical care needs and coordinates with nursing administration for transfer to the appropriate care setting. Maintains current knowledge of CMS and legal requirements for advanced practice provider licensure, certification and clinical standards, Participates in the recruitment and orientation of APP colleagues. Implements best practices for maximizing billable activities for APP's serving as a physician extender. Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities. Minimum Requirements Nurse Practitioner:            Required Education Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty. Required Experience Three (3) years nursing experience. Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty. - OR -   Physician Assistant:            Required Education Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Required Experience Minimum of one (1) year experience is required.
