Dept. of Computer Science, Instructor/Assistant Professor (Full-time, Temporary, 1 Year) Bridgewater State University Position Information Rank: Assistant Professor Tenure Information: 1 year Temp Department Summary The Department The Department of Computer Science is a mid-sized, cordial, collaborative, and innovative group of 8 full-time faculty members. The Department prepares students for exciting careers and graduate school through high quality instruction in small classes and close collaboration between faculty members and students on projects. The goal of the Department is to provide students with a strong foundation in computer science and cybersecurity, one that also promotes critical thinking and lifetime learning. The Department is located in the Dana Mohler-Faria Science and Mathematics Center where faculty and staff work with students in labs equipped with modern equipment and technology. The department currently offers a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science at Bridgewater State which is ABET accredited. The department has developed a minor in cybersecurity and is currently working on a new B. S. degree in the field. The Department also offers a MS degree in Computer Science and, in addition to the minor in cybersecurity, offers minors in computer science and computer engineering. Essential Duties The Department of Computer Science seeks candidates for a full-time, benefited, one (1) year Instructor or Assistant Professor position. We are looking for equity-minded applicants who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. Candidates should demonstrate experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate commitment to improving access to higher-education for under-represented groups. The successful candidate will: Teach 12 contact hours per semester of computer science classes. Advise undergraduates and perform departmental service as required. Possess the ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, a demonstrated capacity for scholarly activity, excellent verbal and written communications skills, as well as a commitment to public higher education. Successful candidates will be faculty members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community. Required Qualifications MS in Computer Science or closely related field. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge or experience in software engineering and an interest in teaching software engineering is highly preferred. PhD in Computer Science or closely related field preferred. Teaching experience preferred.
