Emergency Management Coordinator | The University of North Carolina at Greensboro - Military Veterans

The Emergency Management Coordinator position will analyze the Universitys strengths and weaknesses, available resources, and risk ratios, to design and implement preparedness plans and programs for the purpose of controlling, eliminating, and preventing personal injury, property damage, and/or environmental impacts caused by various factors. The Emergency Management Coordinator position requires substantial emergency management knowledge to apply all relevant Federal and State regulations related to managing the universitys emergency preparedness efforts.

The Emergency Management Coordinator assists with the development, implementation, and activation of the universitys emergency operations and continuity plans; serves as the primary Emergency Planning and Response Team Manager; and coordinates and serves as the university liaison with external stakeholders during incidents related to disasters. This position will assist the Director of Emergency Management in the overall administration of the university Emergency Management Program. The Emergency Management Coordinator is also responsible for performing activities surrounding special events in accordance with the National Incident Management System ( NIMS ) and the Incident Command System ( ICS ). Minimum Qualifications

An advanced degree is strongly preferred. A bachelors degree in emergency management, public administration, public health, planning, or a related field with significant prior experience in a position of comparable scope and complexity.

The Emergency Management Coordinator must have a minimum of three years of experience in emergency planning, public safety, or coordinating programs or operations of a similar nature. FEMA or other disaster training is desirable. The Certified Emergency Manager ( CEM ) certification is preferred. The ideal candidate will be financially and technologically savvy, innovative, customer-focused, and a collaborative leader. Certified EMAP Accessor or ability to obtain certification within 8 months of employment and expertise in both Microsoft and VEOCI software platforms are preferred.

Other qualifications include Strong leadership skills; experience in leading emergency management or continuity programs; familiarity with EMAP standards and accreditation process; ability to integrate strategies and network and coordinate services with a broad range of participants; understanding of the Incident Command System, the National Incident Management System, legal concepts, and interpretations relative to emergency operations; familiarity with FEMA application and documentation procedures; experience leading knowledgeable subject matter experts, and developing staff; experience leading change management, both from an organizational/structural and technical/system perspective; strong organizational skills; exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills; coalition building and collaboration skills; and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and collaborative decision making in the workplace.

This position requires on-call work and the ability to be available on short notice for emergency situations. During the activation of the Emergency Operation Center, relocation or visits to emergency or disaster sites on campus may be required during response and recovery operations.
