Intermittent CDL Charter Driver | Ohio University - Military Veterans

Job Description: The Office of Transportation and Parking is hiring up to (2) Intermittent CDL Charter Driver positions. The position is responsible for providing transportation services for students, faculty/staff and visitors of Ohio University with a predominant focus on charter and over-the-road charter travel. Assists with scheduled university routes, on-demand transportation resources, accessibility transport, and special event accommodations as needed to support business operations. Position focuses on providing excellent customer service and safe, efficient and reliable transport to customers with adherence to all university, state and federal laws and regulations. Chartered Travel – operates CDL vehicles (30-55 passenger) and provides chartered services for university travel purposes which may include out-of-state and multi-day travel. Provides transportation for passengers, and assists with handling of equipment/luggage, materials and supplies. Assists with route planning and maintains proper transportation documentation to ensure compliance with position requirements. Adheres to all university, state and federal laws, regulations and safety protocols. Campus Transit Support – operates transportation services for students, faculty/staff and visitors of Ohio University to include scheduled university routes, on-demand transportation resources, accessibility transport and special event accommodations. Provides superior customer service and safe, efficient transport to customers to support campus travel needs. Assists with transportation dispatching and ride request scheduling as needed based on transportation request demand utilizing scheduling software and associated technology to meet transportation needs. Operates a variety of transit vehicles ranging in size from sedans to 14 passenger vehicles. Vehicle Inspection & Service Upkeep – Responsible for vehicle cleaning, inspection and general maintenance duties associated with university fleet to include washing and fueling of vehicles. Performs routine vehicle service and may perform limited maintenance activities. Maintains records of work performed and necessary travel and service documentation. May perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Applicants should: Exhibit demonstrated safe driving practices, strong interpersonal communication skills and a customer-care oriented approach. Basic technology skills for operation of cell phone and GPS . Employee workload/assignments must be predominantly focused on charter/over-the-road travel activities (85%~). Assignments will be made by supervisor based on operational need to support service activities. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Minimum of 1 year bus/transit driver experience Skill in operation and maintenance of motor vehicles is required. Candidates must demonstrate a safe driving record and pass required physicals, background checks, and drug/alcohol screenings during course of employment. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) with passenger and airbrake endorsements is required or must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
