Postdoctoral Research Scientist | Columbia University - Military Veterans

Postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Joanna Smeeton's laboratory in the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative, Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine, and Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University Medical Center in the city of New York. The laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of musculoskeletal development and craniofacial regeneration, particularly scar-free healing of joints and connective tissues, using zebrafish as a model system. The successful candidates will work on elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate cellular differentiation state, tissue crosstalk, and tissue patterning following injury and in joint diseases using genetics, imaging, RNA sequencing, proteomics analyses, and other molecular and cellular techniques. Specific projects will be discussed and tailored to fit the candidates' background and interest. Laboratory experience with zebrafish genetics, stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, and/or bioinformatics is desired but not required. Ability to communicate with other members in the laboratory and work both as a team member and with independence is a must. Competitive candidates should be highly self-motivated individuals with a strong record of publication. Requires a PhD or MD/PhD in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, developmental biology, regenerative medicine, or related science.
