Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN Sepsis Coordinator provides support and assists in the delivery of quality patient care for patients at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. The primary responsibility of the Sepsis Coordinator is the continuum of care for the sepsis patients. The Sepsis Coordinator will ensure continuity between clinical practice and standards of care to patients with sepsis. The individual works collaboratively with physicians, nurses and case managers and other health care disciplines utilizing a team approach. This position will serve as a leader, role model and mentor to facilitate each professional providing care to sepsis patients. This individual will report directly to CNO and VP of Quality and act as an inhouse clinical consultant regarding excellence in clinical care for this patient population. The coordinator will be responsible for meeting Joint Commission standards and complying with corporate policy and procedure. The coordinator has responsibility for the development and execution of growth strategies for the service lines. Responsible for performance improvement, P&P, physician relations, program development, education and community outreach strategies. 


    • Collects and analyzes data in order to identify current and expected needs of the stable/acute/critical patients.

    • Assess and recognizes acute and chronic pain in all patients to assist in alleviating suffering and improving quality of life.

    • Delivers medication based upon continual assessment, safety and evaluation of patient response.

    • Serves as a role model, consultant and clinical resources person to medical and nursing staff and other health care providers regarding their sepsis care.

    • Makes rounds on all patients within specific patient population to identify and manage patient needs. Follows protocols for specified procedures relevant to patient population. Provide education and follow-up of sepsis dashboard results.

    • Promotes efficiency and economy in the use of equipment, materials and supplies, monitoring cost of resources associated with the care of sepsis patients.

    • Maintains open lines of communication with physicians, nursing, case managers and other healthcare professionals regarding patient/family needs and identifies areas of improvement throughout the hospitalization.

    • Assists in the development of policies, procedures, standards and other resource materials pertaining to sepsis care. Works collaboratively with Directors/Managers of Nursing/CNO to identify nursing competency assessment needs.

    • Participates in multidisciplinary patient care conferences.

    • Participates in the development of individualized plan of care with the appropriate healthcare providers to progress the patient through the hospital process to the time of discharge.

    • Participates in the selection and preparation of educational materials for nursing staff and patient and/or families as it pertains to the care of specific patient populations.

    • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth as evidenced by involvement in professional nursing organizations and attendance at related seminars.

    • Establishes effective working relationships with staff, physicians, administrators and other departmental professionals on an ongoing basis.

    • Conducts post sepsis debriefing for the purposes of identifying opportunities for improvement.

    • Reviews all documentation and bundle compliance concurrently – addresses any issues

                        What qualifications you will need:


                        • Current FL RN License required or recognized Compact Licensure (subject to Florida State licensing requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)

                        • Minimum of three years progressive experience

                        • Previous Meditech experience
