EHS Specialist - Military Veterans

Kinder Morgan CO 2 Company is seeking an EHS Specialist for the North McElroy Unit (NMU) group. The EHS Specialist will be located in Crane, TX but will be required to travel up to 50% of the time. The position is geared towards an individual with at least 2- 5 years of safety experience in CO2 oil and gas operations. The successful candidate will serve a vital role in ensuring that the CO2 lease operations maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations. Position level commensurate with experience and skill set.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Promote the Company's EHS philosophy and culture.

  • Assist in continued implementation of and adherence to the Company's EHS Management Plan.

  • Assist operations with Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Pre Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR).

  • Work with field personnel to identify solutions to arising EHS issues and audit findings.

  • Assist operations in Risk Management and Incident Investigation processes including facilitating root cause analysis of reported incidents, near misses, injury, or vehicle collision.

  • Promote Behavior Based Safety principles.

  • Maintain safety equipment in proper working order and coordinate required inspections, maintenance, calibration/testing, and replacement as required.

  • Assist in the development and enhancement of compliance review policies and procedures.

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct EHS-related training.

  • Participate in Emergency Response planning, preparation and efforts.

  • Participate in corporate Technical Work Groups, as appropriate.

  • Will carry a company-provided cell phone/pager and respond during working and non-working hours.

  • Willing to work around pipelines, pump stations and crude oil tanks
    which are flammable and may be explosive under certain circumstances.

  • Operate a company vehicle.




  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Health, and/or Safety for regulated pipeline operations.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA general industry and construction standards. Knowledge of PHMSA, RRC, TCEQ and EPA regulations is a plus.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary, including experience providing training, and interaction with employees and all levels of management, as well as ability to interact with federal, state and local
    agencies and officials.

  • Experience in field and pipeline operations.

  • Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft Office applications and database software, specifically including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Must be a self-starter with a high drive for results.

  • Must have good time management skills and be able to handle multiple tasks at same time.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walk up and down stairs/ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree, and/or Certification in the field of Health and Safety are preferred
