Engineer, Electrical - Military Veterans

POSITION SUMMARY: Reports to the Engineering Manager, assists Project Managers. Responsible for coordination and execution of electrical portion of capital expenditure projects – small to large - throughout the life cycle of the project. Starting with initial concept, continuing with the feasibility study, and concluding with commissioning and transfer to operations.

The Electrical Engineer shall be able to assist the Project manager and coordinate the electrical engineering aspects of a project for all business segments of the organization with the following contributions:


  • Collects site information. (Existing drawings, process flow…)

  • Develops conceptual designs. (Power Distribution, Cable routing, P&ID, Instrument specification…)

  • Coordinates electrical engineering activities for a project.

  • Uses and promote group best practice principles regarding Engineering, Safety, Health and Environment, and Quality.

  • Ensures all safety policies and standards are applied to be able to execute the projects with Zero Harm.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:


  •  The Electrical Engineer contributes to the delivery of CAPEX projects (greenfield, brownfield, optimization, etc.) for small to large size projects.

  • Collects existing site information (drawings, P&ID, utilities…)

  • Makes site survey, 3D scans and takes site measurement as required.

  • Makes preliminary Power Distribution and Control System Schematics.

  • Makes preliminary cable routing drawings (2D and 3D drawings).

  • Makes preliminary equipment and instrument lists.

  • Prepares all necessary electrical documentations for the Project cost estimation.

  • Prepares all necessary electrical documentations for the tendering process.

  • Contributes to technical evaluation and clarification during the bid and contract process.

  • Provides guidance to external engineering.

  • Checks and Reviews detailed electrical engineering documents and drawings.

  • Participates in Safety, Maintenance, Operability and Construction reviews.

  • Transmits construction documents to construction team.

  • Manages and archives technical documents related to the project.

  • Maintain contact with field representatives, contractors and suppliers to insure correct installation and to provide effective commissioning and start-up procedures

  • Controls and inspects construction sites and fabrication shops as required.

  • Provides guidance and support to site team during construction.

  • Assists during commissioning and start-up.

  • Performs electrical troubleshooting to support plant electrical and operating personnel as required.

  • Assists during trainings and hand over to operations.

  • Contributes to the after-action review (lessons learned, etc.) report.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous mining and/or manufacturing environment.

  • Must possess excellent human relations skills in dealing with employees, vendors and contractors. 

  • Familiar with NEC and NFPA 70E codes

  • Knowledge in construction.

  • Capacity to forecast, analyze and mitigate technical risks.

  • Reporting – accurately and timely.

  • Able to communicate in a multi-cultural environment (written and verbal).

  • Able to communicate internally as well as with external third parties.

  • Able to work under pressure and in a matrix organization with teams located in several locations.

  • Open minded for change and innovation.

  • Team player committed to the Group values and ethics.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks / Projects assignments.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Projects.

  • Basic skills in AutoCAD.

  • Able to work outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to high temperatures, noise, and dust.

  • Able to access all areas within a site which could include heights of 180 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:


  •  Must be physically able to perform work assigned.

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant, terminal, and office locations as needed.

  • Tolerate working outside in weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Will be working in an office, mining, and lime processing environment.

  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions:  Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.

  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Able to travel extensively (~50%) and reside over a longer period on a specific work location related to the project work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field and/or equivalent proven work experience in the field.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering Technology. Graduate degree; Professional Engineering Registration (P.E.)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 Must have at least with at least 2-7 years of previous industrial electrical or electronic control system, electrical schematics, control panels and PLC, software, programming for equipment (i.e., mixing, conveying, and weighing applications), HMI and MCC, project management, capital installation experience in mining construction, environment.  Must have experience commissioning of new equipment and systems are preferred.   Strong understanding of material handling equipment and automation.  Previous experience directing hourly employees and subcontractors.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  •  5 years plus experience. Power systems, Control System experience.
