Job Purpose


Responsible to create engineering part designs, drawings and plans for use in thermal battery design and production. Analyses include geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), mass growth allowance, mechanical and electrical interface definitions, and form and fit optimization. Activities include technical drafting (Solidworks), design requirements verification, and design reviews. The selected technician will liaise with engineering, manufacturing engineering, and quality to create or change engineering drawings and plans that meet customer requirements and company objectives. The selected technician will also work with engineering to standardize battery and parts design, dimensioning and tolerances to assure form, fit and manufacturability. 




Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Prepares engineering drawings and plans to meet customer specifications and improve battery design.

  • Liaises with engineers to gather product and material requirements to convert product designs into drawings and plans.

  • Deploys ASME Y14.5 GD&T to create or change engineering drawings.  

  • Performs research, analysis and evaluation of prescribed standards for design materials and processing. 

  • Ensures the final component designs comply with customer drawings and specifications, the quality system, and industrial/aerospace/defense standards.

  • Develops, updates and standardizes design criteria for engineering drawings and plans.

  • Evaluates customer drawings and specifications for product form and fit and the electrical and mechanical interfaces to the next higher assembly.

  • Evaluates and analyzes battery designs for mass growth allowance, center of gravity, and inertia. 

  • Coordinates with the Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and configuration management to ensure drawings are released on-time.

  • Supports engineering technical report writing.

  • May assist with other engineering tasks.




Qualifications



  • Associate’s Degree in a technical field or five years drafting experience 

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.) and associated tools 

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) required

  • Strong technical drawing skills, attention to detail, and ability to accurately interpret sketches, specifications, and design concepts.

  • Working experience to ASME Y14.5 standards a plus.

  • Working knowledge of FMEA, fault tree / fishbone analysis, root cause / corrective action determination, system safety, and functional hazard analysis required.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required.

  • Effective problem-solving and risk assessment skills, strong work ethic, and initiative are required.




General Job Requirements



  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.

  • Must be able to differentiate colors.

  • Risk of electrical shock.

  • This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.

  • Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
