Research Support Specialist II (Hybrid)-CVM The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a research support specialist to assist in the total research process to Dr. Araos in the study of critical care diseases and perioperative medicine using advanced models of disease. The candidate is expected to be capable of conducting the research protocols independently. Work will require the interpretation and application of a variety of procedures and policies and will require analytical and inductive thinking. Advanced surgical, anesthetic, and monitoring skills, along with an in-depth knowledge of mechanical ventilation in a wide variety of animal models of critical care disease--particularly acute respiratory distress syndrome--are absolute requirements. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participate in the planning, design, execution and performance of experiments, collation and analysis of data, and preparation of results and figures for publication. Independently implement and run translational animal models, interpreting and applying a variety of complex procedures. Lead and supervise all operational logistics of the laboratory. Demonstrate and train staff/students on the use of moderately complex equipment and laboratory techniques Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department. Required Qualifications A bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Advanced experience with research techniques in translational animal models of critical care diseases and perioperative medicine. Specific skills include animal surgery, anesthesia and advanced mechanical ventilation Evidence of research ability as indicated by relevant publications in critical care or anesthesia journals or other creative or scholarly work is necessary. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Important Details about the Position This is a Hybrid position located in Ithaca, NY. The exact details will be discussed during the process and is be subject to change to meet the job requirements. We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position. While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
