Title of Position: Smoking Cessation Telephone Counselor (Part-Time) Department: NYU School of Global Public Health | Social and Behavioral Sciences Supervisor/Principal Investigator: Dr. Jennifer Cantrell Job Type: Part-Time Employment Dates: July 15, 2024, to July 14, 2025, with the possibility of an extension Number of Positions Available: 1 The New York University School of Global Public Health is looking for a Telephone Counselor to provide protocol-driven,multi-call telephone counseling for smoking cessation to individuals living with HIV who are enrolled in a smoking cessation research study. The project is a five-year research study funded by the National Cancer Institute and will utilize Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) to optimize smoking cessation treatment in HIV clinical care for people living with HIV. The Counselor will work with the study Principal Investigator, Dr. Jennifer Cantrell (Asst. Professor) and the study team. This is a part-time position with competitive pay and some benefits. Some flexibility in hours may be needed to work outside of regular work day hours to reach study subjects by phone. Responsibilities include: Conduct outreach to participants who are randomized to the telephone counseling arm. May require some evening hours. Provide ongoing telephone counseling consistent with a manualized protocol. Work with each assigned study participant to support efforts to quit smoking. Accurately document all counseling calls. Update research database with study information on participants counseled, number of counseling calls made, activities conducted, etc. Participate in counselor trainings and refresher sessions as required. Option to participate in the development of conference submissions and presentations and manuscripts for publication if interested. Attend project staff and supervisory meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned. Bachelor's Degree is required; Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, mental health counseling) strongly preferred. Experience in Motivational Interviewing counseling approaches strongly preferred. Training will also be provided. Experience providing counseling over the telephone strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, outstanding judgment, discretion, initiative, and attention to detail. Previous experience working with HIV populations and/or with smoking cessation preferred.
