Law Practice and Technology Librarian - Military Veterans

The University of Minnesota Law Library invites applications for the Law Practice and Technology Librarian position. The Law Library is seeking an energetic and motivated applicant who is interested in becoming the Library's subject matter expert on emerging legal technologies and their impact on the practice of law.
The University of Minnesota Law Library is located on the University of Minnesota campus, on the banks of the Mississippi River, in the vibrant and affordable city of Minneapolis. Professional librarians are members of the Law Library Faculty and have the opportunity to achieve promotion and continuous appointment based on successful fulfillment of job responsibilities, scholarship, and professional service.
Responsibilities
The Law Practice and Technology Librarian plays a critical role in serving the Law School community. Primary responsibilities of this position include designing and teaching an upper-division two-credit course on Law Practice and Technology within the Law School curriculum; creating and overseeing library spaces devoted to law practice technologies; and acting as liaison to the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science and Technology.
Additional responsibilities include: serving as a member of the Law Library's reference team; participating as a member of the first-year legal research instruction team; engaging in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship, legal education, or substantive legal subjects; participating in professional service activities; representing the Law Library at the campus, regional, and national levels; and other duties as assigned. The Law Practice and Technology Librarian will report to the Associate Director for Research Services.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law school
- M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited graduate school
- Minimum of two years of experience in an academic law library environment or law practice environment
- Knowledge of, and experience in, the use of current and emerging law practice technologies
- Evidence of strong instructional and presentation skills
- Evidence of exceptional legal research competency and the ability to deliver a high quality, comprehensive final product
- Excellent analytical as well as written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated strong service philosophy
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to contribute actively to the law library profession through both scholarly productivity and participation in professional activities
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of professional reference experience in a law library highly desirable
- Experience developing and teaching law practice & technology courses and presentations
- Experience designing, creating, and implementing programs and initiatives using law practice technologies
