Job Introduction

The Competence Manager serves as the functional owner of critical facility and utility systems at ASML. You will be responsible for the performance, reliability, and compliance of these assets, with a focus on industrial automation, control systems, and building management systems (BMS), including HVAC and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role supports ASML’s strategic pillars: safety, total cost of ownership, flexibility, business alignment, wellbeing, and sustainability, with a special emphasis on “smart building” principles and telemetry integration. You will work closely with other Competence Managers to ensure the Engineering Design Guidelines (EDG), utility master plans, and standards are developed, maintained, and adhered to across the Wilton campus and other global sites.

Role & Responsibilities

Control Systems Management: Manage facilities control systems, including PLC, HMI, and VFD programming. Ensure program backups, software licensing, and control system documentation are up to date.
HVAC & Building Systems: Oversee the performance and optimization of critical facility systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, process cooling water, exhaust systems, and compressed dry air (CDA). Continuously improve system reliability and energy efficiency through programming updates, PID loop tuning, and equipment commissioning.
Building Automation Systems (BAS): Maintain and enhance the BMS sequences of operations to ensure seamless integration across all facility systems, leveraging smart building technology for better data collection and operational efficiency.
Technical Leadership: Provide technical support and training to the facilities maintenance team. Lead the design, implementation, and startup of control systems for new projects, including creating and revising P&IDs, PLC I/O drawings, and control cable schedules.
Asset Management: Develop roadmaps to address aging control systems and ensure the availability of critical spare parts through vendor relationships.
Strategic Oversight: Serve as the functional owner of the industrial control and building management systems (SCADA, PLCs, FMIS, etc.). Establish policies, standards, and strategies for long-term system maintenance and upgrades, contributing to the overall Utility Master Plan and supporting ASML’s business and production objectives.
Stakeholder Management: Work closely with internal teams (e.g., Project Managers, Contract & Supplier Managers, EH&S, IT) and external partners (e.g., suppliers, engineering firms) to align facility operations with ASML’s business requirements. Ensure clear communication and effective collaboration across all stakeholders.
Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee safety and regulatory compliance for all control systems, ensuring that any risks to business continuity are proactively identified and mitigated.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Controls, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Control Engineer (CCE) certification preferred.
• Minimum 12-15 years of experience in managing complex industrial controls and ICS network systems, ideally in high-tech manufacturing or cleanroom environments.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation systems (Logix, PLC5, View SE, ThinManager) is a plus.
• Proficient in technical tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.

Skills

Technical Proficiency: Strong engineering skills in automation, controls, and facility systems management.
Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex systems, especially in high-stakes environments.
Collaboration: Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience managing internal and external stakeholders.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess data and make informed decisions to optimize system performance and ensure compliance with strategic goals.
Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy in programming, system documentation, and compliance management.
