Business Analyst, Stanford electronic Research Administration (SeRA) Main work location: Redwood City, CA (open to a hybrid work schedule: at least 2 days per week on-site). Relocation or sponsorship will not be provided for this position. We are looking for a skilled IT business analyst who can define and document system requirements for improving and maintaining a sophisticated, homegrown application which supports research at Stanford. This Business Analyst role requires someone who can coordinate & communicate with diverse business partners, understand & elicit business problems, suggest & design solutions, document requirements, and work with our technical team to build an outstanding product. The Team: Join Stanford's research administration systems organization which builds and maintains enterprise systems supporting the research management lifecycle at Stanford. This role is part of the SeRA (Stanford electronic Research Administration) Applications Team within University Information Technology (UIT) at Stanford. We are responsible for the support, maintenance, and improvement of a sophisticated, custom-built application supporting sponsored research administration for the university. Our SeRA application had numerous integrations and is used across Stanford by a large user base of faculty and central groups. Your Responsibilities: Communicate with business users to understand, synthesize, and analyze business problems and their solutions using a rich variety of methods (e.g., interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, data analysis, etc.) Design solutions to address complex business problems while balancing business needs, usability, system consistency, simplicity, and maintainability. Facilitate & obtain consensus on the solution design between business & technical teams. Document user stories and detailed functional system requirements with supporting documentation (e.g., mock-ups, prototypes, workflow diagrams, detailed requirements, etc.) Represent our business partners while working closely with the development team to clarify business needs and solutions throughout the implementation process. Provide demos, facilitate user acceptance testing, and obtain business partner approval of newly developed functionality. Be a product champion for SeRA, working to continually improve the system and improve the research process at Stanford. Your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability as an IT Business Analyst with experience working on complex business applications. Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills with the ability to approach problems logically and systematically. Passion for working with end users to understand their needs and improve their end-user experience Strong User Interface design skills and experience crafting effective system solutions. Self-motivated and takes personal initiative to achieve goals beyond what is required. Able to work on multiple initiatives at a time with an ability to manage and prioritize work. Organized with a dedication to detail and accuracy. Excellent written & verbal communication, active listening, problem-solving, conflict/resolution management, and interpersonal skills. Works effectively with others as a team-player with an energetic demeanor Experience and background using Agile Scrum methodology. A solid grasp of technical problems and solutions especially around database applications An appetite to learn. Your Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and five years' experience or a combination of education and experience. Certification as a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Product Owner or IIBA Business Analyst or willingness to pursue. Background in Higher Education helpful The expected pay range for this position is $96,000 - 125,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
