Researcher 2 - Johnson Lab - Military Veterans

Primary work will be to manage research animals in preclinical studies, perform behavioral and electrophysiological recording studies, and help with research lab logistics as needed.
Behavioral and neurophysiological studies (75%)
- Develop and perform behavioral training protocols for preclinical research animals, including regular maintenance and care of the medical device implants.
- Perform behavioral and electrophysiological experiments testing novel neuromodulation therapies for treating neurological disorders.
- Perform protocols for conducting surgical/anesthesia procedures, acquiring MRI/CT imaging, and analyzing multi-modal data sets using MATLAB and other software programs.
Clinical research studies (10%)
- Help as needed with analysis of our clinical trials investigating novel approaches to deliver neuromodulation therapies to individuals with neurological disorders.
General lab maintenance and communication (15%)
- Help with maintaining research lab supplies and equipment, assist with preparation and organization of research posters and manuscripts, and aid in research protocol writing and
compliance. - Supervise and lead undergraduate student workers, as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, physiology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or related field of study with 1 year of related work experience
OR equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal five (5) years.
Preferred:
- Experience caring for and behaviorally training research animals.
- A basic understanding of the 3R's (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) in a research setting.
- Familiar with GLP, FDA, USDA, AAALAC, IACUC and other applicable regulations and guidelines as they apply to a preclinical research environment.
- Previous experience working in a preclinical research environment and familiarity with following study protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to work with computers (word processing, spreadsheets, MATLAB is desired) and electronic equipment.
- The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, reliability, teamwork, attention to detail, motivation, ability to follow and develop protocols, and ability to organize research studies with complex logistics.
