Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer Department/School: Executive Affairs Salary/Pay Rate: $60,000 Job Summary: The Athletics Department at Marist College invites applications for a full-time, 11-month position as an Athletic Trainer. Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic trainers work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree BOC Certification NYS Licensed Athletic Trainer CPR/AED Certified Essential Functions: Prevention, Treatment, Rehabilitation Assess student-athletes to screen for potential injuries or risk factors that would increase the risk of injury. Design and implement rehabilitation plans after carefully assessing a student-athletes injury. Select, apply, and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions using evidence-based research to guide those decisions. Assess the student-athletes functional status, interpret the medical results, and determine the individuals ability to return to his/her sport. Obtain and interpret environmental (e.g., ambient temperature, relative humidity, heat index, lightning) and student-athlete data (e.g., hydration status). Design and implement emergency action plans. Clinical Evaluation & Diagnosis Examine student-athletes who have acute, subacute, chronic musculoskeletal disorders or medical conditions and provide appropriate diagnosis. Consult with other health care providers, as needed. Oversee concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) protocol. Immediate & Emergency Care Provide medical coverage for team practices and competitions for designated teams. Travel with and provide health care services to assigned teams for off campus events. Act as on-call health care provider for assigned sports while traveling off campus. Maintain working relationship with local EMS and campus Safety and Security. Provide emergency care under the policies and procedures of the Department of Sports Medicine and the Standing Orders with the supervising team physician(s). Demonstrate the ability to appropriately use the chain of command and protocol in injury management. Professional Development Maintain certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Complete Evidence Based Practice CEUs . Maintain New York State Licensure/Registration through the State of New York Education Office, Office of the Professions. Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, valid for two years. Participate in appropriate Department of Athletics Activities Consultation & Communication Record evaluation findings and update clinical notes based on each student-athletes case daily. Communicate health information (including participation status) with: players, coaches, physicians, etc. Work with team physicians to provide continuum of care to student-athletes, coordinate and consult with outside physicians. Organization & Healthcare Administration Serve as a liaison between the team physicians, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents regarding medical issues; Make referrals to team physicians/medical specialists or other healthcare facilities. Assist in the correspondence with, contact development with, and cooperation with local healthcare providers, team physicians, and surgeons. Assist in the coordination of medical-related transportation of athlete. Report to Coordinator of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics. Interact with external and internal constituents. Complete and maintain insurance injury reports and claim forms. Act as liaison between student-athletes/parents and insurance companies/administrative assistant insurance coordinator. Internal Office Assignments Coordinate staffing/scheduling for summer camps/clinics to ensure proper medical coverage Coordinate rehabilitation programs (progression, adherence, etc.) Coordinate Athletic Training Students orientation and education Certification of CPR/AED/First Aid for all athletic department staff (coaches, athletic administrators) Coordination of inventory of supplies Coordinator of equipment maintenance and repair (AEDs, modalities, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree Required Application Documents: Resume, Cover Letter, & Contact Information of 3 Professional References Benefits: The position includes a comprehensive benefit package. College contribution increases to 10.5% in year 7, and 12% after 15 years. Employee contribution decreases to 1% in year 7. Remains 1% thereafter. Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist College. 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution. Tuition Benefits: Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26. College pays 100% tuition only. Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution. *Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.
