JOB SUMMARY One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2024, and/or Spring Semester 2025. TYPICAL ACTIVITIES Lecturers may be needed for one or more of the following courses: Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, Qualitative Analysis & Field Research, Social Psychology, Socialization, Sociology of Education, Social Inequality, Environmental Sociology, Sociology of Sport, Medical Sociology, Sociology of Work and Social Casework. Other courses may also be offered. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, San Bernardino may include courses at the Palm Desert Campus. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess Masters degree in Sociology or closely related field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS PhD in Sociology or related field Demonstrated promise of excellence in teaching (demonstrable via qualitative or quantitative evaluations, and/or via interview process) At least 1 year of experience teaching in a multicultural university setting is preferred. SPECIAL CONDITIONS The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Sociology is located in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Sociology-Social Services Track. The department has 14 full-time tenure track faculty members and over 500 undergraduate majors. The Sociology Department is composed of diverse and experienced faculty whose teaching and research expertise contribute to students' intellectual and professional development to address social inequalities and contribute towards social justice and equity. We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology , a Sociology minor, and a Certificate in Gerontology . Our faculty also teach in interdisciplinary programs including Gender & Sexuality Studies, Ethnic Studies, Social Sciences, and the Master of Arts in Social Sciences & Globalization. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students to examine and analyze social phenomena from a sociological perspective. Through our student-centered and applied coursework, students develop critical analysis skills, theoretical and methodological proficiencies, research experience, and internship/service-learning opportunities that prepare them for graduate degrees and professional careers.
