The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine's Department of Diagnostic Sciences invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gene editing and Tissue engineering. This post-doctoral fellowship is an opportunity to work on a project in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Garlick lab in collaboration with a cutting-edge startup company. Their goal is to use gene editing and tissue engineering to create immuno-privileged tissues. This postdoc will be responsible for leading development and working with technicians in the lab to create and culture CRISPR/Cas9 edited porcine and human cells for the creation of 3D human equivalent tissues. This is a one-year appointment, and may be extended to 2-years, contingent on the meeting of milestones and sponsor funding. Responsibilities Lead development of CRISPR/Cas9 edited porcine and human cells Work with lab and startup company to develop experimental roadmap Culture human and porcine cells, and engineer 3D tissues Perform and analyze sequencing to verify CRISPR edits Work with technicians to run histological analysis of tissues Research and advise on innovations in fields related to model development Present data to lab and company Participate in general lab upkeep Completion of a PhD in molecular biology or similar field Strong background in CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing, including gene design and construction, editing efficiency characterization, clonal selection, verification of edits Background in mammalian cell culture Experience in running and analyzing DNA sequencing analyses Experience in phenotypic analyses (IHC, Western Blot, ELISA, qRTPCR) Ability to work independently, and to plan and execute complex long term research projects Strong record of productivity, motivation, and adaptability Ability to work collaboratively with excellent oral and written communication skills Trainees must be citizens or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.
