Start your journey towards success! We are currently accepting applications for a Grounds Worker I at NC National Guard of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities of Position:
This position performs manual work which involves in the upkeep of highways, grounds, buildings, and equipment. This position performs a variety of physical labor tasks requiring some knowledge and experience in their particular work assignments. Duties performed are below the semi-skilled or sub-journey level. Work is performed with only general supervision in repetitive and routine assignments and may be closely supervised when assisting higher-level trades worker in performing more complex work. The position performs underground repairs and service to service lines such as water, sewer as well as general maintenance repair of all related equipment. Requires skills in the use and care of equipment and tools used in performing work assignments and routine care and maintenance of lawns, shrubs, and trees. Position also applies proper quantity and amounts of pesticide and herbicides where needed..
About the Facility:
The Camp Butner Training Center provides well-maintained small arms ranges and training facilities for year-around use to support the mission of the NCNG (North Carolina National Guard). Units and organizations that use the facilities include the NCNG, other US Army units, miscellaneous other DoD (Department of Defense) elements, civilian law enforcement agencies and civilian-sponsored marksmanship programs. This position is responsible grounds maintenance and general repairs/upkeep in support of the Camp Butner
Training Center in Stem, North Carolina. Position maintains 5,000 acres of Camp Butner Training Center. Duties: Must be able to operate tractors with bush hog and other attachments, z-turn mowers, seeders, weed eaters, backpack blowers, chainsaws, and all other tools used by grounds personal. Applies herbicide/ pesticide under supervision of a licensed individual. Must be able to work as a team on other large projects. Must be able to perform maintenance on assigned equipment. Participates in other grounds related tasks as assigned, including road maintenance, pressure washing, painting, raking, trash collection, general cleanup, etc.
Note to Current State Employees :The salary grade for this position is NC01. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
- Ability to follow oral work assignments: HVAC, water/sewer repairs(below the semi-skilled or sub-journey level)
- Physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.
- Demonstrated experience in grounds maintenance.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working/repairing most power equipment such as mowers, trimmers and tractors, etc.
Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience Education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade and equivalent to two years of experience in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants and grasses.

Military Experience
