Environmental Health & Safety Engineer (EHS) - Military Veterans

The Role



 


The Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Engineer at the STERIS V. Mueller facility in St. Louis is primarily responsible for assisting the V. Mueller HSE department in the development and maintenance of HSE Programs, Policies, and Procedures at V. Mueller St. Louis. The HSE Engineer will partner with the local leadership, operations support teams, and directly with production floor associates to develop, maintain, and implement HSE related initiatives to ensure compliance and drive HSE performance improvement. The incumbent will regularly monitor regulatory guidelines, company performance standards, and take initiative to continuously improve our HSE programs. The HSE engineer will interface with all levels of organizational employees, vendors, and regulatory agencies.


 


Work Schedule:  Monday – Thursday  (Four 10 – hour days) and Fridays Off !  





What You Will Do



 



  • Serve as HSE liaison between shop floor associates, support, and management.

  • Lead the tactical and technical execution of the HSE strategy to achieve goals.

  • Closely monitor changes to HSE regulations to maintain compliance.

  • Conducts periodic HSE audits and assessments to evaluation compliance to corporate HSE performance standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Responsible for development and updating training, drills, and training matrix. 

  • Leader of site safety committees and safety team

  • Lead incident investigation team; evaluate risks and incidents.

  • Track lagging and leading indicators and metrics; including inputting KPI data to HSE management system.

  • Prepare site level HSE awareness, topics, trends, and issues communication.

  • Conduct periodic HSE performance and procedure reviews to ensure effectiveness.





What You Will Need to Succeed



 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or related field

  • 4 Years of experience working in an environmental, health, and safety capacity.

  • In lieu of degree, 12 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication.

  • Ability to work independently or with others in cross-functional project teams.

  • Experience in prioritizing and implementing change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working with HSE programs, including OSHA and EPA regulations.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing setting with appropriate PPE.

  • Ability to lift objects up to 35lbs. and travel up to 5%.





Preferred Experience



 



  • Professional Certification (CSP/ASP) or willingness to attain.

  • Experience working in a machining environment; mills, lathes, CNC, etc.

  • Knowledge of ergonomic and human factors workplace practices

  • Lean manufacturing knowledge and experience preferred.
