DEPARTMENT MANAGER ($10-20M)-Full Time w/Benefits ($800 Recruitment Bonus) - Military Veterans

Job Summary:

Manages sales activities in assigned retail departments. Ensures department's are appropriately stocked attractively displayed and adequately staffed to achieve sales goals and service standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for department level execution of retail services business strategies procedures and policies.

  • Ensures department is fully stocked and merchandise is attractively displayed to include effective signing accurate price marking fact tags etc. Adheres to corporate Visual Merchandising standards. Coordinates stock replenishment with backroom and procurement personnel.
  • Acts as stock replenishment expert. Ensures stock replenishment program for responsible departments is effectively executed.
  • Establishes and implements an effective customer relations program. Ensures service provided meets or exceeds NEXCOM standards and customer expectations.
  • Reviews department's merchandise stock structure makes recommendations and provides information to Store Divisional Managers Buyers etc. regarding merchandise in-stock position stock assortment product saleability local demand trends and requirements etc.
  • Reviews daily sales reports. Recommends and/or initiates markdowns as necessary. Provides input to Store Divisional Managers and Store Manager regarding departmental promotions sales goals and budgets.
  • Controls scheduling to ensure staffing levels and payroll expenditures are appropriate to current business conditions.
  • Coordinates and implements departmental promotions and sales events with store operations, visual merchandising, and merchandise procurement associates. Provides post-promotion feedback to Buyers Store Manager etc.
  • Strong business acumen and skill-set which enables the management and development of the staff.
  • Ensures subordinate associates are aware of sales goals sales events sales incentive programs store policies etc.
  • Keeps current regarding industry market trends for assigned departments. Conducts comparisons with other retailers to benchmark business practices. Implements best practices.
  • Carries out policy of courtesy and service recognizing the importance of genuine obvious and active attention required in a retail organization.
  • Exercises tact good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers and fellow associates in the performance of duties.
  • Actively seeks to become knowledgeable concerning store policies and services offered in order to effectively carry out the requirements of this position. Responds to inquiries and provides assistance in a prompt and friendly manner.
  • Hands on experience setting plan-o-grams.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Experience working with vendors.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Available to work varied days and hours as work schedule requires, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Performs independently under the direction of a Store Divisional Manager or Store Manager. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of operational goals and objectives. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

3 YEARS GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Experience which was gained in administrative clerical retail sales or other related work which enabled the applicant to gain knowledge of selling floor operation practices and procedures skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships and the ability to exercise mature judgment.

OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:

1 year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for each 9 months of experience. Substitution of 1 year for 1 year in those instances where co-op experience is required of a student as part of the program study.

AND 1 YEAR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Progressive experience which provided background in merchandise controls inventory stock record keeping and reports exempt or non-exempt supervisory experience merchandise display and retail promotions or experience in the area of customer relations in an effort to improve sales and maintain operating cost efficiencies.

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is the headquarters for the worldwide NEXCOM Enterprise and is one of 11 commands under the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

NEXCOM offers exciting opportunities to join a unique provider of goods and services to Navy Sailors and their families around the world.  We are a $2+B enterprise, operating over 300 Navy Exchange retail locations and 100 Navy Hospitality locations around the US and in 13 foreign countries, on nearly 100 Naval Bases globally.  Our NEX oversees the operation and management of retail stores, food services, hotels, auto shops, and other services.

NEXCOM oversees six primary business programs:

  • Navy Exchange (NEX) Retail Stores and Services
  • NEXCOM Hospitality Group
  • Uniform Program Management Office (UPMO)
  • Navy Clothing Textile and Research Facility (NCTRF)
  • Ships Stores Program
  • Telecommunications Program Office (TPO)

With the exception of the Ships Store Program, the NEXCOM Enterprise conducts its operations as a federal non-appropriated funded instrumentality. As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.

NEXCOM is a military organization and is subject to congressional legislation as well as oversight from the Department of the Navy. NEXCOM’s parent command is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

The NEXCOM Enterprise boasts over 14,000 civilian associates in a wide variety of jobs worldwide, over 40 percent of whom are military affiliated as either family members or veterans. The bulk of NEXCOM’s workforce is comprised of government non-appropriated civilians, many of whom are also military affiliated as either family members or veterans.
