10kFam Health Research Assistants/Fair Staff - Military Veterans

The 10,000 Families Study is hiring temp/casual research assistants to staff health visits and recruitment events. This is the ideal position for someone looking to explore and develop research skills and support nationally recognized efforts to improve family health in Minnesota.

The 10,000 Families Study is led by multidisciplinary faculty at the University of Minnesota in the schools of medicine, public health, and in partnership with the Masonic Cancer Center. The 10,000 Families Study is a cohort study that aims to better understand how genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors influence health and disease in Minnesota families.

The 10,000 Families Study hosts regular health visits where physical measurements and biospecimens are collected from study participants of all ages. The primary site for health visits is the Advanced Diagnostic and Research Lab (ARDL) on the edge of the Minneapolis West Bank Campus. Recruitment events may be held in the Twin Cities and occasionally, greater Minnesota. Days and times for the position vary based on the fluctuating needs of participants and the study team. Health visits and recruitment events are primarily held on weekends, though some weekdays and week-evening events are possible.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in study-specific training

• Obtain blood, urine, and saliva specimens

• Prepare specimens for transport to the central lab

• Data entry on the CRF (study form)

• Measure and record vitals (ht/wt, BP/pulse, HWR).

• Clean exam rooms between participants

• Help set up and staff recruitment events.

• Engage the public, including minority populations

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

• Strong organizational skills.

• Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize tasks.

• Strong verbal, written, and oral communication skills.

• Desire to learn.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.

• Availability to work Saturdays and/or weekdays/week-evenings. Frequency varies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Training from a medical assistant program, CNA program, LPN program, or EMT program.

• 1-year direct care experience. Willing to consider a new graduate or the right person that is still in school. This position does not require licensure.

• Experience in outreach and recruitment, especially engaging with the general public at events.

• Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Bilingual skills (Hmong, Somali, Spanish, or ASL).
