Position Summary For over a century, UCLA Extension (UNEX) has helped prepare people to live better lives through the power of education. As the Assistant Dean, External Relations for UNEX, you will design and implement a comprehensive external relations program that represents the Deans priorities to grow support and advance key programs and initiatives. Serving in UNEXs leadership, you will manage and guide a dedicated team, shape growth strategies and contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence as you play an integral role in moving forward ambitious plans. You will partner closely with key stakeholders to acquire a deep understanding of UNEXs mission, impact and overall fundraising and external relations objectives. As our Assistant Dean, you will establish the groundwork for enduring and rewarding relationships with constituents and institutions as you prepare for and participate in major gift solicitations. You will play a crucial role within our team, backed by supportive academic and administrative leadership and dedicated colleagues, ensuring you have the guidance and resources for success. Qualifications Minimum of five years Progressively responsible experience as a professional fundraising, external relations officer or related experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer driven organization. (Required) Demonstrated experience in soliciting major gifts and/or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. (Required) Expert knowledge of principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity. (Required) Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a comprehensive development or similar program of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision and articulate future direction. (Required) Appropriate management and administrative skills needed to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers; strong supervisory skills to oversee and evaluate the efforts of professional fundraisers. (Required) Excellent communication skills to express, both orally and in writing, the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the UCLA Extension. (Required) Effective verbal communication skills to make persuasive oral presentations to senior management and internal and external constituencies; conduct participatory meetings; gain acceptance of decisions; and advise and collaborate with others. (Required) Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers. (Required) Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through. (Required) Steadfast commitment to work of impeccable integrity with strong analytical and organizational skills to develop creative, credible solutions, recommendations and programs as well to define and implement special fundraising and/or program related projects. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree in a related area. (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed. (Required) Some travel required.
