This is a 4-month appointment that will begin with required participation in the MA Academy didactic learning/rotation program; after successfully completing the MA Academy you may be eligible to be considered for other MA career opportunities with UCSF. The clinic/site locations with career position vacancies will vary with each program cycle. Under general supervision of the Director of Ambulatory Strategic Initiatives and site rotation leadership, guided by the policies and procedures of UCSF Medical Center, Ambulatory Services, the Medical Assistant Trainee is responsible for the efficient organization and operation of all technical functions of the practice to which he/she/they are assigned. This assignment may vary from day to day and requires an individual to be flexible and well-trained. The primary responsibility of the Hospital Assistant is patient care. The Medical Assistant Trainee: Acts within the scope of practice a Medical Assistant and carries out other clinical and administrative functions as directed by the Administration of the Department for any of the assigned Clinical Services. Performs routine clinical functions, including but not limited to patient rooming, vital signs, pain screening, height, weight, and documentation of chief complaint. Assists nurses, providers, and patients in preparation for exam and/or procedures. Covers APeX in baskets and phone messages. Monitors the clinical areas of the practice for patient and staff safety and flow. Obtains specimens and performs simple Point of Care Testing (POCT) as directed. Performs QA/QC on CLIA waived tests. Participates in updating mandatory logs (i.e., temperature log, disaster cabinet, temperature logs, etc.) Assists providers in writing and sending out patient communications. Cleans and maintains the equipment used by the practice. Stocks supplies daily and maintains the order of each day's assigned areas. Maintains an orderly and professional appearance in all the clinic areas of the Department. Actively pursues and attends continuing educational opportunities to ensure current knowledge in the ever-evolving role of the Medical Assistant. Performs all activities in an accurate and timely manner. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role. For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
