Job Summary:

  • Responsible for a variety of gardening and grounds maintenance work in areas surrounding NEXCOM Hospitality Group NHG properties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains appearance of external areas of buildings to include walkways, entryways, paths, sidewalks and driveways. Rakes shovels to ensure areas are clear of leaves dirt, ice and snow. Removes weeds and unwanted plants from cracks joints and crevices.
  • Picks up trash and sweeps parking lots and sidewalks daily.
  • Assists with maintenance and care of building exteriors as needed to include washing windows and entry doors, cleaning, sills, pressure washing building, exteriors and maintaining and ensuring the cleanliness of gazebos, decks, spa areas etc.
  • Work includes gardening, general care of grounds, including picking up trash and debris, cutting grass, planting and transplanting grass, ground cover, flowers, shrubs and trees. Controls and prevents pests, vertebrate, rodents, birds etc and plant pests such as weeds, plant diseases, and fungi.
  • Maintains lawns to include laying sod, aerating existing lawns, seeding, mowing and trimming edges with the use of applicable hand and power tools. Prunes and trims flowers shrubs and hedges for a neat appearance. Rakes, shovels to ensure areas are clear of leaves, dirt, ice, and snow to ensure patron safety and visibility surrounding buildings and other areas.
  • Inspects plants for obvious plant diseases, plant insects and unusual or poor plant growth and reports these conditions to the supervisor. May be required to measure and mix fungicides, insecticides and herbicides using instructions on product labels spraying and dusting as directed.
  • Operates equipment to include hand mowers, standing mowers, weed cutters and a variety of hand tools. May operate a tractor with pull mower.
  • May be required to greet guests at time of arrival and offer assistance with luggage, directions, base services and local area information.
  • Reports to supervisor or security personnel acts of vandalism and or damage to NHG facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

GENERAL EXPERIENCE Eighteen months experience performing gardening and grounds maintenance work.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for 12 months of experience.

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is the headquarters for the worldwide NEXCOM Enterprise and is one of 11 commands under the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

  • Navy Clothing Textile and Research Facility (NCTRF)
  • Ships Stores Program
  • Telecommunications Program Office (TPO)

With the exception of the Ships Store Program, the NEXCOM Enterprise conducts its operations as a federal non-appropriated funded instrumentality. As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.

NEXCOM is a military organization and is subject to congressional legislation as well as oversight from the Department of the Navy. NEXCOM’s parent command is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

The NEXCOM Enterprise boasts over 14,000 civilian associates in a wide variety of jobs worldwide, over 40 percent of whom are military affiliated as either family members or veterans. The bulk of NEXCOM’s workforce is comprised of government non-appropriated civilians, many of whom are also military affiliated as either family members or veterans.
