Research Assistant Junior Specialist A position of a research assistant within the Specialist series (Junior Specialist) is available in the Murn Lab at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside. Our lab is committed to studies of RNA biology in stem cells, neurons, and quiescent cells. About the Junior Specialist role: Under the guidance of Dr. Jernej Murn, you will carry out research as well as development and implementation of new functional genomics tools for mammalian system that will allow for addressing a wide range of biological questions. The position will involve independent but collaborative work and will entail techniques like molecular cloning, cell culturing, preparation of sequencing libraries and their analysis. This opportunity would thus be an ideal for a hardworking, passionate, self-motivated professional who enjoys balancing multiple priorities and is looking for a 1-2 year career experience before beginning graduate studies at UCR. Work efficiently and cooperatively with postdocs, graduate students, and other lab members. Operate lab equipment and prepare and order necessary supply stocks. Collect, verify, record, and compile experimental data. Participate in laboratory meetings and read literature applicable to the research area(s). Prepare, order, and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions, and supplies. General lab operations to help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly lab environment. What you bring: A Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences is required. Previous hands-on research experience working in a laboratory is required. Understanding of and experience with the basic molecular and cellular biology techniques. Previous experience with tissue culture of mammalian cells and molecular cloning is preferred. Experience with bioinformatic data analysis is desired but not required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills with strong attention to detail. Proactive and self-motivated mentality with an eagerness to learn and grow.
