Instructor/Assistant Professor of Social Work - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

The UMD Department of Social Work seeks to add to its pool of instructors available to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels such as Introduction to Social Work Research; Individual, Family & Group Practice; Organization & Community Practice; Gender, Justice & Policy; American Indian SW Practice; Advanced Practice in Mental Health; Field; child welfare courses; and others. 15% to 100% positions for the 2024-2025 academic year are available. Fall Term is August 19th, 2024 to January 1st, 2025. Spring Term is January 2nd to May 18th, 2025.

Candidates will be considered for the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, determined by qualifications. A master's degree is required for the rank of Instructor (9404), and a doctorate is required for the rank of Assistant Professor (9403).

Job Responsibilities:

Job duties and responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels such as Introduction to Social Work Research; Individual, Family & Group Practice; Organization & Community Practice; Gender, Justice & Policy; American Indian SW Practice; Advanced Practice in Mental Health; Field; child welfare courses; and others.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctorate in Social Work or related field.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity across campus, the social work curriculum, and the social work department.
  • Valid Minnesota social work license or verification of eligibility for licensure by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years post-MSW practice experience (required for practice courses).
  • Social work practice experience in specific courses assigned to teach.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively with culturally diverse students, colleagues, and communities, including intercultural communication skills, awareness of diverse cultural values and beliefs, and willingness to examine your own cultural biases.
  • Experience, knowledge base and commitment to American Indian and/or Indigenous people and communities.
  • Evidence of effective academic classroom teaching or professional training experience.
  • Demonstrated skills related to the development and implementation of on-line courses.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills necessary for a faculty position.
