Summary

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.

Objective

For this internship, the

train as an Engineer Field 3 within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor (Ronald McBride), with the goal of learning the maintenance actions and duties required of our Field Technician 3 position providing availability planning, troubleshooting and repair of Trainers for the Project Team and the RADAR, Interior Communications, and Boatswain's Mate schoolhouse personnel at Naval Station Great Lakes (GLKS). The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.

Desired End State (3 month target)

  • At the end of three months, the intern will be able to further develop skills needed to provide independent technical support for the 3 schoolhouses and the project team. Use personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports, and inventory control.
  • The intern will develop a strong understanding of:
    • RADAR Part Task Trainers.
    • VIDVR Trainers
    • Announcing Part Task Trainers
    • Alarms Part Task Trainers
    • Networking Part Task Trainers
    • QM and QS Viscom Trainers
    • MCFL Trainer
    • Spare Parts tracking and inventory control
  • Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern's naval Fire Control knowledge and experience specific to Naval Station Great Lakes and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience.


Assumptions/Restrictions
  • SkillBridge Intern must have a Secret Clearance.
  • SkillBridge Intern will be available during business hours of the contract supported for meetings and training.

Training Locations: Chicago, IL (primary); Huntsville, AL (temporarily)

Training Plan

Contract Introduction
  • Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization and familiarization with Roles and responsibilities of the HII Onsight Technical Representative.
  • Week 2: Introduction to the various GLKS entities and Mission Technologies team as well as the applicable safety measures and training required for HII personnel.


GLKS PTT Maintenance
  • Week 3: Intro to basic HII operations, maintenance, inventory control, and documentation for reporting.
  • Week 4: Intro to RADAR Part Task Trainers
  • Weeks 5 and 6: Introduction/familiarization to Announcing Part Task Trainers.
  • Week 7: Introduction/familiarization to Alarms Part Task Trainers
  • Week 8: Introduction/familiarization into Boatswain's Mate VIDVR system
  • Week 9: Introduction/familiarization to Boatswain's Mate MCFL QM, and QC Viscom Systems
  • Week 10: Introduction/familiarization to Networking Part Task Trainers
  • Week 11: Demonstrate an understanding of all above listed systems and PTT's
  • Week 12: Engage with HII PM and team for performance and evaluation feedback.


Minimum Qualifications

Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted during final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
  • USN qualifications in operations/maintenance of non-Aegis Fire Control Radar.
  • Secret Clearance
