Dynamical systems for social good Post-doc position - Tandon School of Engineering, New York University Post-doc positions are available in the Dynamical Systems Laboratory (DSL) at the Tandon School of Engineering, New York University in a wide variety of research projects that are signature scopes of our multidisciplinary group. The positions are fully funded with a competitive salary. We seek for independent, motivated, and creative individuals to conduct fundamental research in the broad area of complex systems theory. The candidate will be making important contributions to one or multiple reserch projects supported by our several ongoing grants (see https://wp.nyu.edu/dsl/active-projects/ ). Candidates will be responsible for conducting fundamental theoretical research in the broad area of mathematical modeling, control, and diagnostics of complex systems, with interdisciplinary applications in physical, biological, and social systems. For example, ongoing research seeks to address epidemic processes over networks, hydrodynamic and socialinteractions underlying fish schooling, and ion transport in porous membranes. We are seeking individuals with a strong background in mathematical modeling, complexity, network science, statistical physics, statistics, urban science, and/or related field. The DSL was established fifteen years ago by Prof. Maurizio Porfiri (Institute Professor at Tandon School of Engineering, with appointments at the Center for Urban Science and Progress, the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and the Department of Civil and Urban Engineering). The DSL is home to a highly collaborative, vibrant group of young scholars, with complementary expertise across theory, experiments, and computation. The director, Prof. Porfiri, is the author of more than 350 journal publications and the recipient of numerous professional awards ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurizio_Porfiri ). In compliance with NYC'sPayTransparencyAct, the annual basesalaryrange for this position is $58,500 to $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Candidate profile : Ideal candidatesareexpected to have: i) the drive to pursue an excellent career in research upon completion of their post-doc training;ii)a Ph.D. in science, mathematics, or engineering, iii) a demonstrated ability to conduct originalresearch (theoretical,experimental,or computational),as evidenced by a number of high-quality journal and conference publications;iv) outstanding English language oral and written communication skills; v) a strong workethic with the ability towork independently as well as in a research group; vi) evidence of good project/laboratory management skills; and vii) the ability to strategize the goals of projects as well as design, conduct, and interpret experiments, under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator.
