School of Medicine Office of Student Affairs Associate Dean for Career Advising Open Faculty Position - Health Sciences Series - Associate, or Full Professor Rank The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for an Associate Dean for Career Advising in the Office of Student Affairs. Reporting to the Executive Associate Dean for Student Affairs, this position provides primary oversight of the Office of Career and Residency Advising (OCRA), and assists with general operations in the Office of Student Affairs including areas of medical school admissions, recruitment, student success, and pathway programs. Candidates require expertise with career and residency advising across different medical specialties including away rotations, residency application systems, and developing fourth-year schedules, as well as experience in developing a comprehensive career advising system through all four-years of medical school. Candidates require general knowledge of student affairs operations including admissions, academic support, financial aid, student wellness, and recruitment with preferred experience across student affairs operational areas. Ideal candidates should value inclusive excellence and have experience with developing a holistic supportive student environment, career advising best practices, metrics for success, and success with advising students to help achieve and advance a diverse student body. This position is primarily administrative with 80% FTE devoted to the Associate Dean role. The remainder 20% effort will be dedicated to the candidate's clinical academic department in clinical service and other academic pursuits. Essential functions include: * In consultation with the Executive Associate Dean for Student Affairs, overseeing the Office of Career and Residency Advising system from matriculation through graduation; * In collaboration with the Office of Medical Education Quality and Improvement, develop and implement an effective program evaluation process to determine the effectiveness of the Career and Residency Advising System and the level of student satisfaction with Career and Residency Advising in order to identify interventions to undertake continuous quality improvement of the program, and to achieve and maintain accreditation standards * Oversee the Clinical Faculty Career Advising program including program effectiveness and training * Provide career and residency advising for students throughout their medical school career including taking the lead during SOAP week, orientations, and tracking student engagement * Participate in regional and national careers in medicine organizations and conferences * Responsible for managing Office of Career and Residency Advising budget and meeting defined metrics aligned with budget * Counsel and advise medical students on issues related to student progress and/or other student concerns * Participate as a member of the Admissions Committee and general operations * Collaborate with Executive Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the development of a student affairs strategic plan and in hosting student affairs retreats, * Serve on SOM committees as well as committees/taskforces in medical education and student affairs * Collaborate with Executive Associate Dean for Student Affairs in planning and executing of student affairs activities/events including Gold Humanism Honor Society, Recruitment Day, etc. * May be asked to contribute in other areas of student affairs depending on background and qualifications * Serves as the second in command for Student Affairs and shares representation at senior leadership meetings with constituents including the Board of Advisors, sponsors, and community partners Founded in 2013, the School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School. The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in the Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor rank. The successful candidate must possess an MD degree or DO degree and current board certification in a clinical specialty aligned with the UCR SOM clinical enterprise UCR Health, as well as meet the eligibility requirements for a medical license in the State of California. The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate clinical department and is expected to participate in clinical service, in addition to research, or scholarly activities. The successful candidate will be expected to show strong communication skills, leadership ability, and an organized and evidence-based approach to the education of medical students. Additional qualifications include the demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, and research or scholarly work. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities. See Table 5 for the salary range. The budgetary range for this position is $121,100 - $320,100.
